About the Role We're looking for a Junior Full Stack Engineer to build features on Chexy Core (our web application). You'll work on both sides of the stack—from payment processing systems and APIs to user-facing web experiences that help Canadians manage their most important payments. This role involves taking ownership of features end-to-end, from database and API design through frontend implementation and deployment. You'll build production-grade systems that move real money while creating intuitive user experiences. You'll ensure both our backend and frontend are clean, scalable, and performant. What You'll Be Doing Build features end-to-end on our Next.js web app (Chexy Core) Develop payment processing features including inflows, outflows, and integrations with card networks and banking systems Design and implement REST APIs and integrate them into frontend applications Build user-facing features in Next.js and React with Tailwind CSS for styling Work with PostgreSQL (backend) and Firestore (web app) for data modeling and queries Write clean, well-tested code across both TypeScript backend and frontend codebases Design responsive, accessible web interfaces that work across desktop and mobile browsers Participate in code reviews for both backend and frontend contributions Debug and resolve issues across the full stack in development and production Collaborate with product, design, and mobile teams to ship cohesive features Participate in on-call rotations for production systems Who We're Looking For 2+ years of full stack engineering experience building production web applications Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript for backend development Strong experience with React and modern frontend development (Next.js experience is a plus) Experience with backend frameworks like NestJS, Express, or similar Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (Firestore or similar) Experience building and consuming REST APIs with understanding of API design principles Proficiency with CSS frameworks (Tailwind CSS preferred) and responsive design Understanding of authentication systems and security best practices Familiarity with financial systems, payment processing, or fintech products Strong testing practices for both backend and frontend code Ability to balance technical trade-offs between backend performance and frontend user experience Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams Ownership mentality with attention to code quality, system reliability, and user experience Bonus Points Experience with Next.js and server-side rendering Familiarity with NestJS or similar microservices frameworks Experience with Firestore or other NoSQL databases Knowledge of Clerk or similar authentication platforms Experience with financial systems concepts: ledgers, transactions, reconciliation Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, Firestore) Experience with payment integrations or banking APIs Experience with Prisma ORM Contributions to open-source projects Design sensibility and experience working closely with product designers Why Join Chexy? 💥 Build full stack products that matter: Your work spans the entire stack, from payment systems to user experiences that help thousands of Canadians 💬 Join a tight-knit team: Work directly with founders, engineers, and designers who trust you to make important decisions 📈 Early equity: Access equity in a high-growth fintech company that's just getting started 🛠 Own real impact: Take ownership of features from concept to deployment and see direct user impact 📍 Toronto office: Work in-office 5 days a week with the team in Toronto How We Hire We keep our hiring process clear and human.
