Building Sciences Project Manager

We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Building Science Project Manager at our Mississauga location.In this position you will apply your technical knowledge to evaluate existing buildings and design solutions for the complex and unique problems of our clients. Projects will include a mix of residential, multi-family, and commercial projects, with an emphasis on repair of damage from fire, wind, flood, and impacts, as well as adaptive reuse of older buildings, and enhancements to existing facilities to accommodate changes in use and implementation of equipment and machinery. You must be able to balance several projects simultaneously and be detail orientated. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are essential.In return for your talent and effort, Rimkus offers a dynamic organization with a competitive salary and benefits package, flexible work schedule and opportunities for advancement.Responsibilities:Oversee Building Science personnel and responsibility for group production and ensuring timelines and billing needs are metOversee field review/testing and data collection, design, report and specification preparation and contract administration; work may include but is not limited to the following:Collect field data and prepare Reserve Fund Studies and Capital Expenditure Plan ReportsPerform field investigation work and the diagnosis of building problems required to design exterior envelope remediation including exterior wall, fenestration, roof and/or structural remediationPerform leak investigations of all aspects of building envelope, roofs, walls, windows and foundationsPerforming condition assessments of multi-residential, commercial and institutional facilitiesCollect field data required for the preparation of repair specifications, drawings and tenderingConduct onsite quality control and adherence to prepared specificationsProvide project management and related contract administrationLiaise with clients, contractors and manufacturersProvide technical support, guidance and review of completed work prior to delivery to the client (Branch Manager or C of A must conduct final review of work to be delivered to the client); coordinate with other engineers for peer reviews and design guidancePromote team building, quality, public relations, enthusiasm, ethics, initiative and reliability from employeesProvide periodic input to the sales and marketing plan of the department; work with Business Development Managers to identify and implement and effective planIdentify and regularly consult with various clients/organizations of up-coming projects where a relationship has been establishedPrepare, review (with department head/project manager) and present department specific proposals; follow up on prepared proposals, update proposal log and identify reasons for success/failureMake contributions to the company knowledge base and procedural practicesPrepare proposals and quotations where required to generate salesPreparation of specifications and design as required on an as needed basis; review shop drawingsOversee project administration and assist with design management of engineering projects of IRC; provide construction contract administrationPerform field investigation work and the diagnosis of building problems required to design exterior envelope remediation including exterior wall, fenestration, roof and/or structural remediationAssist in performing leak investigations of all aspects of building envelope, roofs, walls, windows and foundationsDuties will Include:Work setting in both the office or field environmentTravel within the Greater Toronto Area RegionMeasuring of building dimensions and quantifying on site and from drawingsInterpretation and hand drawing of in-situ construction detailsWorking at heights including accessing buildings by ladders, swing stages and mechanical liftsTypical duties associated with working in a professional engineering officeCo-ordinate all input for time billing and job costingOther tasks may be required to ensure timely completion of deadlinesRequirements & Qualifications:Completion of a degree in an engineering or technology program with a focus on Building Science, Architectural, or Civil / Structural Engineering2 – 5 years of experience with a focus on projects related to building sciencesKnowledge and experience with construction contracts, contract administration, site reviews, and chairing site meetingsExcellent oral and written communication skillsKnowledge in areas related to building science such as thermodynamics, heat transfer and psychometricsUnderstanding of building construction including methods, materials and systems is requiredExceptional attention to detail, specifically in accuracy of calculations and completeness of data collection and notationDemonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing prioritiesSelf-motivating and multi-tasking abilityAble to work individually and in a team settingAt Rimkus, we value a diverse and inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and respected.
