The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, co‑ordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy (www.igluliuqatigiitngiq.ca), which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030. Reporting to the Executive Director, Programs, the Senior Programs Officer plays a key role in the delivery, monitoring, and continuous improvement of NHC’s Public Housing and Homeownership programs in Iqaluit and assigned communities. This position provides direct program support to the Iqaluit Housing Authority (IHA) and other Local Housing Organizations (LHOs), ensuring consistent implementation of NHC policies and program objectives, including initiatives under the Nunavut 3000 strategy. In this role, you would work directly with Nunavut community members, using a culturally and community‑centred approach to help Nunavummiut understand, access, and benefit from NHC’s housing programs. The role supports capacity building within LHOs, contributes to strategic housing initiatives, and provides expert advice to clients, stakeholders, and community partners. Key Responsibilities Of The Successful Candidate Will Also Include Leading and supporting the delivery of NHC public housing, rental, and homeownership programs in Iqaluit and assigned communities, including initiatives under the Nunavut 3000 strategy; Providing advisory services, training, and capacity‑building support to the Iqaluit Housing Authority, Local Housing Organizations, staff, Boards of Directors, and clients to ensure effective and compliant program delivery; Coordinating and monitoring Local Housing Organization Management Agreements, assessing performance, and recommending improvements to strengthen service delivery; Supporting client‑facing services and administrative activities related to homeownership, mortgages, land leases, and loans in collaboration with internal partners; and Preparing program reports, briefing materials, and contributing to special projects, pilot initiatives, and community engagement activities, including travel to communities as required. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through completion of a college diploma in a related field, and three (3) years related work experience. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment are also considered assets. An eligibility list may be created to fill current and future vacancies across Nunavut Housing Corporation in all communities.
