AVP, Technical Underwriting, Liability (1 Year Contract) Zurich Canada is seeking an AVP, Technical Underwriting, Liability for a 1-year contract. The Opportunity Are you looking for a collaborative, values‑driven workplace? We want a candidate with experience in technical underwriting within casualty insurance. What you will do Operationalize an underwriting business strategy through active engagement with stakeholders and market data. Lead due diligence for liability programs and MGA business and develop training for front‑line underwriters. Implement risk appetite changes based on internal and external data. Contribute to technical standards, controls and practices. Drive implementation of underwriting strategies, propositions, and solutions. Monitor underwriting strategy execution via performance metrics. Operate under Zurich risk policies and operationalize policies into guidance. Lead initiatives on technical underwriting guidelines and best practices. Lead projects, setting direction and engaging teams. Provide expert technical underwriting guidance to Business Unit Leaders. Handle complex queries and referrals within delegated authority. Assist with approval of terms and conditions and line‑wide issues. Provide guidance to lower level associates. Take a leading role in business plans and pricing strategies alignment. Lead portfolio management analysis for profitability and growth. Monitor technical price accuracy and implement solutions. Drive continuous enhancements of pricing tools. Participate in technical underwriting reviews and action plans. Participate in compliance‑related queries. Act as subject matter expert for underwriting technical training content. Ensure implementation of key technical initiatives. Add value by modifying policies and developing cost‑effective proposals. Diagnose and develop recommendations for complex problems. Investigate, recommend, and deliver high‑quality strategic solutions. Plan for medium to long term; develop and implement annual budget. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of liability underwriting experience. High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years in casualty underwriting. FCIP preferred. Advanced knowledge of line/s of business and legal/regulatory environment. Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills. Compensation Starting salary range $130,000 - $170,000.
