Work Hours: must be able to work three days a week from 2:45–6:00 pm or 3:00–6:00 pm (Monday to Friday). Employment Type: Hourly Contract until June 19, 2026. Be the Spark Join our passionate team and help us to achieve great things in our community The Instructor is responsible for the hands‑on creation and delivery of play‑based programming, ensuring a safe and inclusive playspace for the students while adhering strictly to all health and safety protocols. They will need to work well with the other instructors and support any volunteers, with an element of administration to the role including meeting all administrative deadlines, maintaining and organizing paperwork and attending mandatory monthly staff meetings. Responsibilities Provide leadership to PlayON Instructors in planning and implementing quality recreation‑based programs; act as a role model for staff, provide coaching and mentoring to the team. Develop and demonstrate awareness and understanding of community; work collaboratively with Manager and PlayON and Youth Program Coordinator to meet community needs. Ensure fun, safe, and healthy experiences for all participants (Kindergarten–Grade 8); build rapport with students, staff, volunteers, and school personnel. Create and deliver diverse and recreation‑based programming in Physical Education, Nutrition, and Wellness; build positive relationships while adhering to YMCA of Greater Toronto's mission, values, goals, and practices. Ensure adherence to the principles of Healthy Child Development and the Children’s Services standards in planning and delivery of children’s programs. Understand the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Children’s Aid Society. Organize and complete monthly wrap‑up and other documentation punctually. Support families in registering for the program; ensure all children are registered; actively participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events programming. Familiarize with exceptionalities and behaviour management techniques. Monitor the safety of all participants in all activities and programs, indoors and outdoors. Maintain a clean and organized workspace and play area. Actively participate in scheduled shifts, staff meetings, and monthly training sessions. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Enrolled in or completed post‑secondary education in related fields such as Early Childhood Education, Recreation and Leisure, Child and Youth, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Kinesiology, etc., or equivalent experience. Previous experience supervising staff is preferred. Previous (minimum one year) experience working with children and youth in a group setting; childcare or recreational sports setting is an asset. Holds Current Standard First Aid/CPR C certification. Possesses self‑motivation and the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment. Demonstrates well‑developed interpersonal and relationship‑building skills; capable of establishing rapport and excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers. Has excellent written and verbal communication skills. Shows flexibility regarding assigned work schedules, including weekday afternoons, monthly morning management meetings, staff meetings, and training sessions.
