Civil Aviation Safety Inspector, Flight Operations (Inventory) Reference number: MOT24J-020838-000316 Selection process number: 24-MOT-EA-HRS-15125 Position located in Mississauga (Ontario), Ottawa (Ontario), Toronto (Ontario) Closing date: 31 December 2025 – 23:59 Pacific Time Salary: $113,880 to $133,570 (salary under review) Apply online Responsibilities Develop and manage aviation safety oversight plans (assessments, validations, audits, inspections) Exercise Ministerial delegation of authority under the Aeronautics Act and the Canadian Aviation Regulations Research, assess and document risks to safety, recommend and implement risk management solutions Communicate with senior managers and representatives of enterprises concerning the safety oversight program Coordinate cross‑functional issues and engage subject matter experts regionally, nationally and internationally Oversee horizontal integration of the safety oversight program within a matrix management model Influence and promote departmental and national priorities across technical specialties Maintain pilot qualifications for operational duties and professional aviation currency through flying or simulator programs Essential Qualifications Education: Secondary school diploma or acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience Occupational Certification: Restricted Radio‑Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed aeronautical) Possession of: Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence (Aeroplane Category with Group 1 Instrument Rating, valid category 1 medical) OR Canadian Commercial Pilot Licence (Helicopter Category with Group IV Instrument Rating, valid category 1 medical) Experience: Recent (within last 7 years) and significant (≥3 years) experience as a pilot with a Canadian commercial Air Operator, Canadian private operator, flight training unit or Canadian military; total of 2,500 flight hours, including 1,000 as pilot‑in‑command with 500 in multi‑engine aeroplanes or 500 in medium/heavy helicopters Optional Asset Qualifications Experience in flight training (class 1 flight instructor, training pilot, aerobatics instructor, etc.) Experience in air operator leadership (Chief Pilot, Operations Manager, Standards Manager, Regulatory Affairs Manager) Delegation such as Pilot Examiner or Approved Check Pilot Competencies Integrity and respect Initiative and action‑oriented mindset Effective teamwork Analytical thinking Digital literacy Abilities Interpret and apply regulations and standards (Aeronautics Act, Canadian Aviation Regulations) Oral communication effectiveness Written communication effectiveness Conditions of Employment Willingness to travel regionally, nationally and occasionally internationally Willingness to work in remote or isolated locations, with appropriate protective equipment Willingness to work occasional overtime outside core business hours Secret security clearance required Valid motor vehicle driver’s licence and passport for international travel Must maintain pilot licence in full currency EEO Statement We are committed to providing an inclusive and barrier‑free work environment.
