The successful candidate will oversee daily operations in the shop, including the setup and operation of precision machines, preparation of test samples, and training of staff. This role ensures equipment is used properly, quality standards are met, and work‑flow is managed efficiently in coordination with other departments to meet project deadlines.Position will be based in our Cambridge Lab location.Salary range $40.00 to $45.00 based on qualifications and experience.ResponsibilitiesConduct scheduled maintenance and log updates in database.Grease, oil, and lubricate equipment as required.Clean machining cuttings and debris daily before leaving the shop.Monitor the need for equipment repair, maintenance, and replacement.Identify and address all issues related to the function, safety, and operation of machinery and identify potential problems with Lab Manager or appropriate service maintenance provider.Machining test coupons and specimens to dimensional tolerances as outlined in specific standards for required test.Follow written procedures for sample preparation and customer documents.Monitor the machining process for quality control and adjust as needed to maintain precision.Cutting and preparing samples exactly as instructed from other qualified personnel including engineers, technologists, technicians or NDT personnel.Ensure machined samples are de‑burr and all sharp edges removed, and are identified with accurate markings including sample ID, job number/lab number, and reference information as per quality assurance program.Assign tasks to machine shop staff and ensure execution occurs in the required time‑frame.Work with Operations Coordinator to ensure priority work is completed efficiently. Provide creative suggestions toward the development and construction of jigging for unusual testing and for new test procedures.Identify samples for storage and disposal and ensure all extra pieces are properly handled, discarded or provided to the appropriate technologist.Place orders for shop supplies.Operate the forklift to move large samples and equipment.Ensure machine shop staff are trained to Acuren SOPs and specific work procedures.Maintain sample identification/traceability and quality control to ensure integrity of tests.RequirementsJourneyperson trade certificate in Machining.Minimum 10 years work experience.Experience managing a machine shop is considered an asset.Appropriate job related safety certifications are considered an asset.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong understanding of industrial materials, processes, and machining practices.Skilled with precision tools (verniers, calipers, micrometers) and equipment including band saws, grinders, manual/CNC lathes and mills, EDM, and related shop tools.Proficient computer skills with the ability to program CNC equipment.Able to troubleshoot machining issues related to tools, settings, and materials to minimize downtime.Good manual dexterity and strong mechanical aptitude.Accurate in measuring, estimating sizes, and verifying dimensions.Physically capable of safely lifting up to 25 kg.Able to work independently on tasks requiring focus and physical effort.Understands how their work supports the quality management system.Consistently follows Occupational Health & Safety requirements and ISO standards (e.g., 9001, 17025).BenefitsThe strength of Acuren lies in its outstanding people.
