ABOUT THE POSITION Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, this position involves a variety of maintenance, installation, and repair tasks including those related to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Working together with the maintenance team, this position supports the safe operation of all NVRC locations and facilities. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Install, program, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical controls, circuit breakers, contactors, and alarms from arena refrigeration systems, swimming pool equipment, HVAC systems, computer circuits, and sound systems. Install and maintain lighting, HVAC system, motors, fans, and emergency power services at facilities, associated grounds, and parking lots. Install, program, troubleshoot, adjust, and maintain all aspects of the D.D.C system. Perform a variety of new and renovation construction wiring and complete necessary permit applications, including annual electrical operating permits from the District of North Vancouver and the City of North Vancouver. Estimate and request materials required for projects from layouts, sketches, and blueprints. Prepare and maintain records and reports related to all work. Respond to emergency and malfunction fire, security, and system alarms with corrective action to restore service. Complete general electrical maintenance, repairs, and alterations as well as other related work as required. Supervise the work of one or more helpers, as required. Liaise with municipal Electrical Inspectors of the City and District of North Vancouver. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, materials, tools, equipment, and safety standards used in electrical maintenance and construction work. Able to estimate materials required and requisition parts and/or materials as needed. Skilled in the use and care of tools, materials, and equipment used in electrical work. Able to carry out tasks with minimal supervision, working from either oral or written instruction, including sketches, prints, and/or diagrams. Considerable knowledge of the applicable rules and regulations defined by the Electrical Code of B.C. for all work performed. Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to electrical work. Able to maintain log report records and prepare reports related to various projects and maintenance work. Able to inspect related maintenance work carried out by contractors and authorized NVRC employees. In-depth knowledge of fire life safety systems and equipment and computerized HVAC systems including pneumatics controls. Strong customer service orientation, project management skills, and attention to detail. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Completion of Red Seal Electrician Certification. Valid class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence. The successful candidate will be required to provide their own tools and be prepared to use their own vehicle when necessary. Mileage will be reimbursed. This is a regular full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday 6:30am – 2:30pm.
