Title: Election Specialist Classification: Temporary Exempt Rate of pay: $27.85 per hour Hours of work: Variable Term: February 9 to March 12, 2026 Reports to: Elections Administrator Under the direction and supervision of the elections administrator, an election specialist supports the facilitation of our annual board elections. While an election specialist can expect to work closely with CSU staff in the execution of election-related work, an election specialist reports directly to the independent elections administrator. Election specialists will be trained on election rules and procedures prior to the election. Please note that in order to ensure the independence of the election process, we are not able to consider candidates who have been a Capilano University student or a Capilano Students’ Union student leader or employee in the last 12 months. Our successful candidates must have full availability from March 10–12, 2026. Duties In particular, the election specialist performs the following job duties: Election Support Assists in the promotion of the election’s nomination and voting periods. Assists in the set-up and maintenance of electronic voting kiosks, ensuring that all equipment is operational and ready for use throughout the voting period. Provides guidance and support to students using electronic voting kiosks, answering questions, and troubleshooting technical issues as needed; however, an election specialist cannot view or handle a student’s ballot. Ensures the integrity of the election process by enforcing rules in the proximity of the polling stations and in and around assigned zones of the campuses, and reporting issues to the elections administrator. Maintains detailed and accurate records of incidents, issues encountered, and any other relevant information requested by the elections administrator. Enforces security measures to safeguard the confidentiality and integrity of the voting process, including the use of privacy screens, space and crowd control, and ensuring a voter’s privacy during the voting process. Collaborates with the elections administrator and appropriate staff to facilitate effective communication with voters about the nomination and voting process. Exercises delegated powers of the independent elections administrator, if any. Other Duties Works safely, in accordance with our health and safety program. Protects the personal information of coworkers, students, and the public. Performs other duties as assigned by the elections administrator. Qualifications Has not been a Capilano University student in the last 12 months. Six months or more experience participating in elections. Knowledgeable about post-secondary campus life. Personable, professional, and well-organized. Ability to work effectively independently, or as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Think you've got what it takes?
