Opportunity Are you a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who has always wanted to work with mothers and babies? Unit 25 (Postpartum) is looking for LPNs who are passionate about maternal/child nursing. We offer a classroom‑based orientation program with buddy shifts to facilitate learning and skill development. This unit prefers candidates with a strong interest, experience, and ability to provide family‑centered care to the postpartum patient, newborn, and family. Experience in postpartum and newborn assessment is a definite asset. Candidates who enjoy teaching and supporting patients in the parenting role will find this role rewarding. Additional education in breastfeeding support will be beneficial. Please note the start dates will vary depending on individual orientation requirements. Overview As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision‑making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family‑centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP). Additional Required Qualifications Recent experience in postpartum and newborn care. Basic computer skills. Good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities. Ability to work shift work, meet physical demands, and work within a team. Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Preferred Qualifications Training and experience with Connect Care. Current IBCLC (International Board‑Certified Lactation Consultant) certification. Inter‑professional communication skills.
