The Senior HRBP People & Culture is a key partner to the business leaders within their client group, focused on developing leadership, driving engagement and retention, leading initiatives that elevate employee experience, satisfaction and success, within a dynamic and engaged culture aligned with Syntax’s mission and strategic goals. As a Sr. HRBP, People & Culture, you will report to the Director of People and Culture of Professional Services and serve as a member of Syntax’s People team. This role will have 1 direct report supporting the Global SAP Delivery business group in Canada and the US. This is a strategic and hands‑on role where you are the connection between the Centres of Excellence (COEs) and business lines to address talent management, talent development, employee engagement and retention, and HR compliance. This role is hybrid with a requirement to be in the Toronto office on scheduled days of the week. As an integral member of Syntax’s People team, you will lean into and support a culture defined by meaningful work, ample fun, deep employee engagement and strong, inclusive leadership ensuring Syntax will outperform peers as an employer of choice. Key Accountabilities Business partner Partner with business unit leaders and the People team COEs to ensure continuous communication and connectivity between the People function and the business. Administer effective HR programs with a focus on talent management, talent development, employee engagement, labour relations, and HR compliance. Provide subject‑matter expertise across department and functional lines in HR related projects and programs. Employee engagement & employee relations Demonstrate continuous knowledge of updated laws and regulations of HR programs and contribute to the design of procedures and forms for policy implementation. Manage the Employee Engagement actions with client groups. Be the employee point of contact for all HR support with information requests and data updates. Ensure accurate and timely data entry of new hires, transfers, promotions, terminations, and all other personnel changes into HR systems. Conduct exit interviews and communicate important exit information to employees in advance of their last day. Ensure final pay is prepared accurately and in accordance with regulations. Assist the Finance department with payroll and benefit‑related events as required. Uphold the company’s core values and behaviours with the Code of Conduct. Effectively manage claims (health and safety, short/long‑term disability, etc.) with the providers and government entities. Provide solutions to complex employee issues. Investigate and resolve employee relations matters. Maintain all employee documentation and information respecting privacy laws. Provide guidance to client group on DE&I programming for a diverse and inclusive culture at Syntax. Coaching and development Bring a global approach and vision to the client group. Partner with managers to coach them on employment legislations and facilitate training and leadership development. Coach leadership on performance gaps, providing guidance toward appropriate learning. Run the Talent Mapping process with the assigned client group, identifying high‑potential employees for further development. Identify talent at risk of leaving and create retention plans with the Total Rewards and Talent Development COEs. Duties may be assigned or modified at any time to meet the needs of the business. Office Management Coordinate office administration and procedures for the Toronto office. Take ownership of daily site operations (including managing the office space, ordering supplies). Oversee the organization and coordination of office meetings, corporate events, and training events when needed. Support and lead Corporate Social Responsibility activities. Qualifications & Experience Demonstrated strong Human Resources expertise across several HR functions and drove HR leadership and functional excellence. Skilled coach, able to develop leaders. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Psychology, or related field required; experience may be substituted for a degree. 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with emphasis in supporting a technology workforce. Demonstrated business acumen and leadership ability with HR analysis and decision support. Current HR knowledge of legal regulations and practices for Canada and the US. Attributes Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), strong attention to detail, and strong organizational skills are keys to succeed. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships with all levels of workforce. Performance‑driven individual with strong critical thinking ability and creativity, adopting a metrics‑driven approach to all solutions. Reliable, organized, and detail oriented with the ability to multi‑task and prioritize multiple tasks without compromising quality. Ability to conduct oneself professionally in all situations.
