Engineering Project Technologist Competition No: 2025-312 Duration: Regular Full Time Salary: $7,319 – 7,629 – 7,946 – 8,285 – 8,647/month (2024 Rates) Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight) Special Notes: Normal for CUPE 23 Inside Division Collective Agreement Last Updated: 12/1/25 This position works in the Commercial Development organizational unit. This is technical and administrative engineering work performed in the Engineering Department. The work involves administering large development and capital works projects and monitoring construction to ensure compliance with plans and related specifications. Under the general direction of a supervisor, an incumbent of this class, through application of prescribed design criteria and established engineering standards, prepares design layouts, detailed drawings, specifications and related data pertinent to the construction of a variety of municipal utilities; all final drawings are subject to the general review and approval of a supervisor. Thereafter, an incumbent is responsible for monitoring, personally and through engineering inspectional staff, the construction of such utilities ensuring compliance with plans and related specifications and schedules. In addition, the work involves estimating project construction costs; preparing specifications and contract documents, consulting and maintaining liaison with and providing information and assistance to a wide variety of internal and external contacts and providing direction to staff who assist in carrying out projects. The incumbent will review and process soil permit applications (removal and deposition) and issue permits. The work also involves processing and issuing of Erosion Sediment Control (ESC), Noise Variance and Soil Deposition permits. Performs related work as required. Qualifications Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Civil and Structural Technology including or supplemented by courses in project management, plus considerable related experience preferably within the municipal sector or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of municipal engineering design principles and methods; engineering mathematics and standards and of applicable departmental policies, practices, procedures, standards and bylaws; of the methods, materials and equipment used in the construction of and installation of municipal utilities. Sound knowledge of the fundamentals of budgeting and standard costing procedures. Ability to act as liaison and coordinator for development and capital works/comprehensive development projects and to administer same. Ability to collect, analyze and/or synthesize technical, statistical, costing and related data and information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts. Ability to prepare, read and interpret plans, specifications, contract documents and related material and to provide direction, information and assistance to drafting and engineering inspectional staff. Ability to prepare and maintain records, reports, correspondence and various other material related to the work. A Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia and certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of British Columbia is required.
