Aquatic Technicians and Biologists Stantec is seeking to build a pool of talented professional biologists, scientists, and technicians to support our growing construction monitoring program. This role partners with clients to meet environmental and regulatory requirements and delivers large projects in an environmentally responsible manner. You may visit some of the most beautiful and remote parts of British Columbia. Project field needs include freshwater fish salvage, marine fish and crab salvage, water quality monitoring, marine sediment monitoring, and stream habitat assessments. The programs you support will help mitigate environmental effects on aquatic systems and contribute to responsible development in British Columbia. Your Capabilities and Credentials Aquatic Field Technician Technical degree or diploma in environmental science or biological sciences General knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations and policies Comfortable working in a construction environment in remote locations for 2–3 weeks at a time Team player with a proactive and open‑minded attitude Aquatic Field Crew Lead Minimum bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, science, biology, forestry, or a related field General knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations and policies Experience in the collection of biological and physical field data; experience with aquatics or fisheries programs or construction environmental monitoring is an asset Good communicator, leader, and problem‑solver with a positive attitude and attention to detail Comfortable working in a construction environment and directing a small team in remote locations for 2–3 weeks at a time Intermediate and Senior Aquatic Biologists Minimum bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, biology, science, forestry, or related field Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience or a combination of education and experience; managing construction environmental monitoring is an asset Knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations and policies Experience in some or all of the following (field or desktop based): freshwater and/or marine fish salvage, water quality monitoring, marine sediment monitoring, stream habitat assessment following provincial standards This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee. Positions may include work in a typical office environment, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include remote locations, staying at industrial camps, and exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
