MAINTENANCE ENGINEER II/COATINGS DEPARTMENT Job Category: Mfg Operations Requisition Number: MAINT003617 Posted : September 16, 2025 Full-Time On-site Locations PNA Ottawa PlantOttawa, IL 61350, USA Description Essential Functions: Develop and improve preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and schedules with plant RCM Engineering support to ensure equipment reliability and to consult with other coating facilities and/or equipment manufacturers. Ensure ability to safely isolate all energy sources when necessary. Build and manage equipment BOMs in SAP; set inventory levels based on criticality. Track all repairs and maintenance activities performed on the critical equipment in the Department. Implement design & equipment improvement projects to improve the expediency and effectiveness of the coater clean process. Provide integration with Plant Maintenance & Engineering on new coating process plans and programs. Continue working with Plant Maintenance & Engineering and Corporate Engineering Group to improve existing process designs, reduce production costs, and ensure new production models are evaluated where processes change. Evaluate and recommend future equipment upgrades and capital investment requirements. Remain alert for technological developments in the coating process in industry, pursue appropriate developments through tests/analysis, and communicate results to interested personnel. Maintain strong working relationships with Plant Maintenance & Engineering Crew, Process Improvers in the furnace, bath, lehr, coating, and wareroom areas, and jointly implement coating applications and developments. Maintain awareness of design and development trends as applied to safety codes or other regulatory bodies and modify long‑term plans accordingly. Be knowledgeable in running the coating process with the ability to fill in for shift vacancies in the Coating Supervisor position. Assume the “day to day” responsibilities of the Coating Department in the absence of the Department Manager. Assist the Coating Manager & other PIs in all 5S and safety initiative projects. Ensure application of appropriate problem‑solving techniques (e.g., the eight‑step model, DMAIC, 5‑Why) on all significant manufacturing issues to resolve production problems quickly, establish systems to eliminate recurrence, and implement process improvement initiatives timely. Adhere to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles. Adhere to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Other duties as assigned by manager. Supervising: 2 People Scope/Dimensions: Incumbent has a high degree of organizational freedom to assign work and develop systems as necessary to achieve departmental performance goals. Incumbent should interact with employees at all levels on a regular basis to develop rapport and provide the training and support needed for all employees to contribute their full potential to the success of the site. Qualifications Required: BS in a related Engineering field (preferably Mechanical or Chemical). Supervisory and leadership experience in a continuous manufacturing setting. Excellent interpersonal, coaching and communication skills. Ability to facilitate groups in an employee‑involvement environment. Basic computer skills – Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Qualifications Desired: 2 to 4 years of experience in the glass industry. 1 to 2 years of experience in a Union environment. Excellent working knowledge of SPC, process capability, and quality systems. Overview of all necessary plant and department safety procedures / policies and Hazmat. Overview of all process operations, equipment, and troubleshooting.
