Director, Tax Dispute Clinic – Schulich School of LawAs the first university-based common law school in the nation, the Schulich School of Law offers a unique and enlightened approach to legal education. Dalhousie’s Pro Bono Tax Dispute Clinic will open in early 2026. The Clinic, operated by the Schulich School of Law, will provide low-income individuals and small businesses with access to legal advice, information, and representation in their disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and before the Tax Court of Canada. Reporting to the Dean, the Director will provide legal advice and services to clients involved in disputes with CRA concerning audits, appeals, collection issues and other tax matters.Key Responsibilities:Lead client intake and case management, representing clients in all stages of tax disputes, including court proceedings (in-person and virtual).Engage in community outreach and business development to build and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partner organizations across the Maritimes.Collaborate with community organizations to deliver education and outreach programs on tax issues affecting low-income taxpayers.Mentor, supervise, and evaluate law students, providing guidance on legal research, client service, and community engagement projects.Oversee student research and clinic operations, ensuring effective service delivery and educational experiences within the clinical program.The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Required Qualifications:Practicing member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, or eligible for admission in a short time frame, with five to seven years’ experience.Must have extensive experience in taxation law and litigation .Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational, and advocacy skills.Experience in managing a firm and overseeing students and working with vulnerable populations.Assets:Demonstrated commitment to pro bono services.Supervisory or management experience.The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate proficiency in Dalhousie’s core and leadership competencies, in particular:Self-Awareness & ProfessionalismRespect & InclusionThinking and Acting StrategicallyRelationship BuildingResource & Process ManagementDalhousie University supports a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
