Position Summary The Mental Health Program currently seeking two Permanent Part-Time Registered Nurses to join their healthcare team. The Registered Nurse will function as a member of the interdisciplinary team and as such, is involved in the care and assessment of individuals experiencing complex mental health and/or addictions supports/needs. The Crisis RN is responsible for conducting fulsome crisis assessments which includes: a thorough MSE/MSA, assessing biopsychosocial and emotional factors; reviewing and understanding any historical or collateral health information, developing patient care treatment plans; developing and maintaining the therapeutic nurse-patient relationship; providing individual follow up crisis support (up to 3 sessions) to clients assessed by the clinician in the ED; providing psycho-social education to patients and/or family members; participating in team conferences, staff meetings and professional development activities and performing other duties as required. This position is designated to the ED department for crisis support in the ED. In addition, the Crisis RN will conduct off-service crisis/mental health assessments and liaison with psychiatry as needed. Effective January 26, 2026 Essential Qualifications Registered nurse current Certificate of Registration College of Nurses of Ontario Non Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate or CPI training BCLS certificate, on hire Three (3) to five (5) years related psychiatric experience working with Seriously Mentally Ill individuals in an inpatient or outpatient setting Demonstrated excellent and comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment skills Demonstrated experience in Crisis Intervention techniques which includes verbal and non-verbal de-escalation/intervention techniques Demonstrated skills and ability to support and manage rapidly changing situations such as Code White(s) Demonstrated excellent knowledge of psycho-pharmacological treatment and protocols Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills Knowledge of community resources and referral protocols for consumers and family members an asset Knowledge of the consultation/liaison model of care delivery Experience with working with the acutely mentally ill population Knowledge of nursing theories Sound knowledge of pertinent legislation that governs mental health nursing (MHA and forms, SDM Act, HCCA, PHIPA, Patient Restraint Minimization Act, etc.) Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of the job, as per current Physical Demands Analysis (includes physically containing aggressive individuals and/or restraint application of aggressive individuals) Preferred Qualifications BScN Excellent understanding of psychiatric nursing role in a hospital/community mental health care setting Expert understanding with relationship between psychiatric illness and emotional health Excellent interpersonal skills to be supportive to patients, families, colleagues and community health care professionals Excellent organizational skills to be able to cope with a demanding and ever changing workload Sound knowledge of empirically validated interventions such as CBT, DBT, MI, etc. Assessment skills for conducting and documenting risk assessments (violence, suicide, gambling, human trafficking, substance, etc.) Sound knowledge of acute psychopathology Sound knowledge of psychotropic medication Mastery of Crisis intervention theory and techniques/skills Understanding of Patients' Rights, Patient Advocate Office etc. as outline in the Mental Health legislation Hours of Work Must be available to work shift work eight and 12-hour shifts, days, evenings and nights, Monday to Sunday. Shifts and hours may change according to patient/program requirements and as per the ONA Collective Agreement.
