CBC North - Nunavut broadcasts in both English and Inuktitut and is the only source for live current affairs and news in Inuktitut broadcasting across Nunavut and Nunavik. Your Role You have fresh ideas and technical expertise to create the quality programming Canadians and Northerners have come to expect from us. You are an innovative producer who will be responsible for the production of the daily 30‑minute supper‑hour television program, driving video storytelling innovation in the newsroom, and working with journalists and videographers in a multi‑platform news environment. As an experienced Producer, you will participate in developing editorial and technological innovation, creative storytelling, and finding great guests for the show. You will have a demonstrated understanding of visual storytelling trends and audience expectations. Reporting to the Executive Producer, you are solid editorially with clear news instincts and a daily‑journalism appetite, with a sophisticated understanding of visual storytelling formats that help deliver a compelling, must‑watch show and encourage great video content that travels. You will work closely with assignment producers to keep Nunavummiut up to date on local stories, and collaborate with Digital and Radio Current Affairs producers to share story ideas and content. You have a strong understanding of Nunavut, Nunavik and Inuit culture; ideally, you are fluent in English and Inuktitut. You will help determine story treatments that support a nimble, fast‑paced, “need to know now” evening news television program. Key Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent Minimum five years recent experience in a daily news environment Strong journalistic and visual storytelling skills Demonstrated ability of video innovation Excellent broadcast writing skills Adaptability to technical demands: desktop editing, graphics usage, field gathering tools Expertise in live storytelling techniques and breaking‑news integration Strong vetting ability Balance between creative thinking and daily production demands Leadership: assign, manage, motivate staff & mediate disputes Knowledge of legal & ethical journalism issues Connection to equity‑seeking communities in Nunavut/Nunavik Deep knowledge of Nunavut/Nunavik politics, demographics, geography & issues Experience telling news stories in innovative ways Management of large volumes of fast‑moving information Strong communication & interpersonal skills Team player Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
