Break through at Brock.Post End Date:February 17, 2026 at 11:59 PMThis job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the Administrative Professional (Employee Group)About the RoleReporting to the Director, Utilities & Services, the incumbent leads and manages the provision of comprehensive mechanical services to ensure that the University’s infrastructure, building, facilities, systems, and equipment are safe, reliable comfortable, serviced and maintained to statutory and non-statutory standards. The Manager, Mechanical Services will deliver and communicate services related to emergencies, preventable maintenance inspections, demand maintenance, repairs and alterations, facility condition audits, and renewal associated with deferred capital renewal and maintenance.The Manager, Mechanical Services willInterpret and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including environmental protection, fire and electrical codes, occupational health & safety, boiler and pressure vessel codes, and other codes and regulations which may apply;Liaise with federal, provincial, and municipal agents, consultants, contractors and internal interest-holders in technical matters affecting infrastructure equipment, systems, and structures;Work closely with faculty, staff, and students to minimize any adverse impact of maintenance and conservation measures on campus operations and activities; Ensure energy efficient performance and optimal functioning of mechanical equipment and systems for all university sites/campuses with the minimum occurrence of disruptions;Coordinate, and maintain an effective planned preventative/predictive maintenance inspection system for site infrastructure, buildings and utility systems to assure a safe and compliant workplace;Plans and coordinates all aspects of a variety of building shutdowns related to mechanical prevention and maintenance as well as scheduled and emergency repairs;Develop and implement short-term and long-range plans and operating procedures;Develop, maintain, and communicate standards and specifications for mechanical equipment and systems;Procure and provide for the continuity of effective and efficient services at all sites;Participate in the capital and operating budgeting, planning and priorities processes;Promote staff morale and understand strengths and weaknesses of staff, identify opportunities to help individuals gain knowledge and further their skills;Provide leadership to staff and student employees, including assigning tasks, managing, coaching, mentoring and motivating to develop a client centered culture;Lead the development of the department operational/service planning and budget develop process;Develop targets and benchmarks to monitor the operational plan and budget, targets and benchmarks should demonstrate effectiveness and efficiency of operations, service responsiveness and accuracy, with a focus on an exceptional customer experience and continuous improvement.Key Skills and ExperienceUniversity degree or College diploma combined with Certified Engineering Technologist or Technician (CET) and/or Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in mechanical;Valid Class G driver's license with an acceptable drivers abstract;Awareness and understanding of applicable legislation (such as, but not limited to, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Environmental Protection Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act);Knowledge of and ability to consistently interpret relevant collective agreements;Knowledge of, and ability to act on, University and Regional Emergency Response protocols;Ability to create a cooperative work environment both within the department and with other departments in the University who rely on the advice, negotiation, and knowledge provided;Ability to establish and implement standards of work;Ability to estimate costs, manage budgets, prepare written reports, procedures, and guidelines;Comprehensive understanding of mechanical structures, systems and standards;Ability to manage risks associated with the co-generation plant;Demonstrated and active commitment to individual and collective professional development and training;Strong project management, strategic planning, presentation and communication skills;The knowledge to provide technical assessments, advise, and planning related to infrastructure in emergency situations and provide recovery and stabilization services as it relates to the mechanical infrastructure of the University;Exhibits professionalism, tact and the ability to represent the University in a professional and appropriate manner;Ability to supervise, lead, coach, mentor, and inspire a large team in a unionized environment, where individuals work independently.Preferred or Asset SkillsEmergency preparedness training;Salary and Total RewardsJob Grade O, Salary Scale ($89,090 - $144,470);Target Hiring Range: $90,000-$110,000This is a permanent position that includes:Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive extended health, dental, and vision coverage.Pension Plan: Enrollment eligibility in the Brock University Pension Plan.Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays.Professional Development: Eligibility for the Brock Tuition Waiver Program.The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.We are committed to offering flexible work arrangements where possible as outlined in our Flexible Work Arrangement Policy.
