Working as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, the Surgical Care Nurse functions as an experienced, self‑directed surgical care nurse by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients. Qualifications Education, Training and Experience Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Post‑basic education in surgical/ambulatory care nursing on a unit‑specific basis; or An equivalent combination of education and training. Up to two (2) years recent, related experience on a unit‑specific basis. Basic Life Support, Level C. Skills and Abilities Apply nursing process as required and described in BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards of Nursing Practice. Demonstrate sound organizational, problem‑solving, and teaching skills. Demonstrate sound judgment, observation and patient assessment skills. Demonstrate tact and empathy. Prioritize and organize patient demands and care needs. Operate related equipment. Remain calm and respond appropriately in stressful and emergency situations. Work as part of a multidisciplinary health care team. Foster good public relations. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Physically able to perform the duties of the position.
