The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is an agency of the Government of Nunavut that serves the housing needs of a growing and young population. NHC’s mandate is to create, coordinate, and administer housing programs to provide fair access to affordable housing options for families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) a collaboration between the government and partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030. Responsibilities Reporting to the VP Finance and Corporate Services, the Director, Policy and Strategic Planning is accountable for guiding and assisting the development and review of NHC’s legislation and policies, briefings, and decision‑making documents. The Director provides leadership in department‑wide strategic planning, including the collection, recording and analysis of information on housing, and is responsible for coordinating information for the Minister, President and CEO, and Board of Directors to represent the Corporation. The Director supports informed decision making, alignment of plans and activities, organized and effective planning and policy structures, and effective corporate communications. This role requires a leader who can navigate the complex landscape of government approvals, cabinet processes, and ministerial priorities. You’ll serve as a strategic advisor and policy architect, translating operational realities into actionable strategies that align with the Government of Nunavut’s vision for housing. As a member of the Corporation’s senior leadership team, the Director will work closely with executives, experts and stakeholders across NHC to ensure alignment of strategic priorities, policy direction, and operational realities. This role requires a collaborative mindset and the ability to build trusted relationships across the organization. Qualifications A deep understanding of government policy and decision-making processes. The ability to build trust and influence across political and bureaucratic boundaries. Strategic thinking and storytelling skills to advocate for housing priorities. Emotional intelligence and resilience to lead through complexity and change. A commitment to public service and community-centered leadership. An undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, or related field. Five (5) years’ experience in the policy field, including policy development and analysis, strategic planning, communications and public relations, and crisis management. Three (3) years of progressive managerial experience. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
