Software Development Manager

About The Role

Hi, I'm Kristien, and I lead the Booking Group at Jane. I started out as a developer more than 20 years ago, and my background in human-computer interaction still shapes how I lead. I care a lot about clarity, empathy, and accountability, and I've found they make each other stronger. I love building teams that can take on hard problems and keep their humanity along the way.

Our Clinic Marketing team looks after Jane Websites, which takes a clinic's setup in Jane and turns it into a marketing website for them. Now we're thinking bigger. The team is exploring what AI can do for website generation. We're also building tools that help clinics make sense of their own marketing, like which numbers to watch and what they actually mean. Most practitioners got into their field to care for people, so helping them grow their practice without having to become marketing experts is a lovely way to help the helpers.

A lot of this work is brand new. That means shaping ideas from scratch, testing them with customers, and iterating quickly. We're looking for a Development Manager who loves that kind of zero-to-one work. You'll lead a talented team of developers and work closely with product and design as part of the team's triad. You'll stay close enough to the technical work to guide architecture, and you'll help every person on the team grow.

If building something new with a team that cares about its craft sounds like your kind of fun, I'd love to meet you.

The Impact You Could Have

  • Lead and grow a team of developers, coaching them on technical and professional skills so each person keeps building their craft and their career.

  • Partner closely with product and design from the earliest conversations: dig into use cases, shape scope, and work out what data we need to capture.

  • Drive zero-to-one product work, helping the team take ambiguous ideas through prototypes to shipped features our clinics love.

  • Bring a strong technical voice to architecture reviews, helping the team make thoughtful decisions that hold up as the product grows.

  • Own delivery for the team and keep work moving with a clear sense of priority and a healthy bias to action.

  • Help the team find the right pace, knowing when to move fast and experiment and when to slow down and get something right.

  • Champion pragmatic, responsible AI adoption, both in the experiences we build for clinics and in how the team works day to day.

The Experience We Feel We Need

  • You spent several years as a hands-on software developer, and you've since grown into leading a development team as a people manager.

  • You have a strong technical foundation and are comfortable reviewing architecture, weighing tradeoffs, and guiding technical direction alongside senior and staff developers.

  • You've taken at least one product from zero to one, and you're comfortable with the fast iteration and ambiguity that come with building something new.

  • You're deeply collaborative and enjoy working in a triad with product and design, getting into the details early and shaping the work together.

  • You're energized by coaching and have a couple of good examples of helping people on your team grow.

  • You stay steady under pressure, take ownership, and know how to move work forward until it's delivered.

  • You've used AI tools in your own work or with your team, and you bring a curious, practical view of where they add real value.

  • Experience with marketing tools, website builders, or analytics products is a nice bonus, but it isn't required.

If you don't meet every single qualification but are excited about this role, we'd still love to hear from you.
