This role ensures all components meet engineering, quality, and torque requirements while maintaining efficient workflow across multiple bays in a fast‑paced production environment through hands‑on leadership. We are currently looking for a Shop Lead (Intake/Exhaust Frames) to become an X‑PERT on our team in Nisku, AB. What You’ll Do Lead the installation of combustion-intake ducts, exhaust frames, seals, and associated hardware according to engineering specifications. Perform precise torquing and fit‑up of components to ensure structural integrity and compliance with tolerances. Verify all labels, part numbers, and traveler documentation for accuracy before installation. Manage kit activities, ensuring all components are staged, inspected, and ready for assembly. Execute delta work, including: Pre‑fitting small duct transitions on‑bay. Cutting seals to length and prepping duct hardware. Initiating and maintaining travelers for all assigned work, ensuring accurate documentation and traceability. Ensuring precise alignment of intake and exhaust assemblies to meet downstream heavy lift requirements. Conducting in‑process inspections and collaborating with Quality Assurance to resolve discrepancies. Applying sealants and verifying proper application using gauge tools and measurement instruments. Safely operating cranes (5–10‑ton capacity), spreader bars, and tag lines for lifting and positioning components. Utilizing specialized fixtures, alignment tools, and torque equipment to achieve precision assembly. Maintaining and inspecting tools and equipment to ensure readiness and compliance with safety. Acting as a hands‑on leader, mentoring technicians on proper assembly techniques and safety practices. Assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring adherence to production schedules. Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback and implementing best practices. Enforcing OHS and company safety standards, including PPE usage and lockout/tagout procedures. Conducting pre‑lift safety checks and ensuring proper rigging practices during crane operations. Reporting and documenting any safety incidents or near misses promptly. Coordinating with Engineering for technical clarifications and design adjustments. Working closely with Quality Assurance to maintain compliance with specifications and standards. Communicating with Operations and Supply Chain teams regarding material availability and workflow priorities. What You’ll Bring 5+ years in mechanical assembly or structural fabrication in heavy industrial environments 2+ years in a leadership or lead technician role Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing or related field Experience in safely operating 5‑10‑ton cranes, spreader bars, and tag lines. Datum alignment and structural work for large assemblies Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and travelers Familiarity with S3 kit and S0M delta work processes Ability to coordinate with engineering and quality teams Experience with turbine packaging or power generation equipment Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for traveler initiation Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with repetitive tasks Ability to prioritize tasks to meet assembly deadlines and manage multiple kit activities simultaneously Ability to troubleshoot alignment or structural issues and make quick decisions under production constraints Strategic thinking with strong business and brand acumen A creative, detail‑driven and solution‑oriented mindset Integrity and presence consistent with X‑Group’s leadership standards and Core Values Physical & Safety Requirements Participation in safety training programs, including hazard communication, emergency response, and travel safety. Ensure all sales team members are trained onsite‑specific safety protocols when visiting customer facilities or field operations. Participate in any required drug and alcohol testing. This position is considered safety sensitive. Understand and comply with the X‑Group’s safety policies, safe work SOPs, protocols, procedures, and rules. Wear required safety equipment and personal protective devices, including clothing mandated by legislation and the employer. Ensure the worksites are free of hazards that could cause slips, trips, or falls. Notify supervisors of any unsafe conditions or acts that may endanger workers. Report all accidents and injuries to supervisors as soon as possible. Take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of other workers and oneself. Maintain a valid Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract. Maintain a valid passport and can travel internationally as required. Maintain a clean criminal background check. Prolong periods of standing and walking throughout the shop floor. Ability to lift and carry components and tools up to 50lbs regularly. Occasional team lifts for heavier structural parts. Frequent bending and kneeling. Extended reaching. Exposure to shop noise, vibration and varying temperatures. Crane and Rigging Certification (for 5–10 ton crane operations).
