JOB SUMMARY The General Manager/Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves as the chief executive of The Ranchmen’s Club in Calgary, AB, responsible for day-to-day operations and the long-term strategic direction of the Club. The GM/COO stewards the Club’s heritage while driving its growth, relevance, and reputation as one of Canada’s leading private clubs. The GM/COO oversees all operational aspects of the Club, strengthens relationships with the Committee of Management (Board of Directors), members, guests, employees, and the broader community, and champions a culture of excellence, hospitality, fiscal discipline, and strategic foresight. This role leads the development and execution of the Club’s long-range strategic plan, including membership growth, brand positioning, capital planning, facilities enhancements, and innovative programming aligned with the Club’s evolving vision and member expectations. JOB DUTIES Strategic Leadership & Growth Leads the development, execution, and annual refresh of the Club’s strategic plan. Identifies and drives growth opportunities, including new membership categories, partnerships, revenue diversification, and enhancements to the Club’s value proposition. Strengthens the Club’s brand and reputation, ensuring consistency across the member experience. Champions a culture of continuous improvement, exceptional service, and innovation. Leads major capital and renovation initiatives, including planning, budgeting, communications, and execution oversight. Governance & Executive Management Implements general policies established by the Committee of Management and ensures disciplined operational execution. Provides strategic counsel and recommendations to the President and Committee of Management. Serves as an ex-officio member of key committees and ensures alignment between committee work and Club strategy. Coordinates development of the Club’s long-range and annual business plans and reports progress using clear dashboards and KPIs. Operational Leadership Develops, approves, and implements operational policies and procedures. Builds and leads a strong organizational structure; recruits, retains, and develops a high-performing leadership team. Oversees membership relations and ensures exceptional member and guest experiences. Ensures the highest standards for food, beverage, hospitality, events, and recreation. Oversees the care and maintenance of the Club’s physical assets and facilities. Welcomes new members and maintains a visible, engaged presence during peak periods. Financial Performance Coordinates development of operating and capital budgets aligned with strategic priorities. Analyzes financial statements, monitors cash flow, and implements corrective actions as needed. Establishes internal controls to safeguard Club assets and ensure fiscal discipline. Provides recommendations regarding construction, maintenance, procurement, and services beyond current plans or budgets. Marketing, Membership & Community Engagement Leads membership and marketing programs that promote growth, retention, and engagement. Oversees development of compelling Club programming and events. Represents the Club in the community, strengthening external relationships and enhancing the Club’s profile. Maintains active memberships in professional associations and stays informed on industry best practices. Compliance & Risk Management Ensures compliance with all applicable local, provincial, and federal laws. Establishes and monitors purchasing policies and procedures.
