The Opportunity Duties Respond to alarms assigned to the fire crew. Assign personnel to lay out and connect hose lines and nozzles, turn water on and off, direct hose streams, raise ladders, ventilate buildings, perform salvage, perform rescue operations, provide emergency patient care, stabilize hazardous materials scenes and any other life and property saving functions which the fire service may be involved in. Inspect the fire scene to assist in determining cause and to prevent re-ignition. Completes all required fire reports submits them to Administration as required. Supervise the cleaning, checking, testing and replacement of tools and equipment after an emergency. Direct the work of the firefighters to ensure that it is done safely and in accordance with legislation and established procedures. Inspect equipment, grounds, and station to insure proper order and condition. Report deficiencies to the Assistant District Chief/District Chief. Maintain order on the fire ground. Provide training and guidance to firefighters performing weekly drills and maintain records of training activities performed. Ability to manage relationships in the workplace to promote positive employee relations. Meet on a regular basis with the Assistant District Chiefs and District Chief to discuss the overall operation of the station. Must participate in at least 50% of the required training for the year and at least respond to 30% of emergency calls. Any other duties as assigned by a Senior Officer. Work or Direct Work in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety Act (OSHA). Ideal Candidate A minimum of five (5) years satisfactory experience as a firefighter. Must have NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 1 and Level 2 or must be grandfathered under the Ontario Fire College. Holder of a valid Class "D" license, complete with "Z" endorsement and either NFPA 1002, the Ontario Fire College Pump Ops Program, or Grandfathered. Candidate must have a willingness to enroll in all required Town of Caledon training, complete the BlueCard Incident Command Program, and complete any other educational courses as assigned within 1 year. Candidates must be certified in CPR, AED, and BLS. Obtained additional training at the Ontario Fire College, NFPA recognized, and regional fire schools or educational seminars. NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level 1 is a requirement. NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor Level 1 - must be certified on/before July 1st 2026. Partial or whole completion of the Blue Card Incident Command Program is considered an asset. Knowledgeable of modern firefighting, rescue, emergency medical practices and first aid procedures. Knowledgeable of the type of buildings in his/her assigned area. Understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, safety procedures, rules, and equipment. Determine strategies, tactical objectives and assign crews at emergency incidents. Must have the ability to supervise firefighters, have sound judgment, and communicate effectively both verbally and written. Mental alertness, mechanical aptitude, ability to get along well with others, conscientious, dependable, and in good physical condition.
