Program Overview

The YWCA Halifax is dedicated to providing women and gender diverse individuals with housing security and providing integrated support to break the cycle of homelessness. The YWCA currently operated two supportive housing programs, Women in Supported Housing (WISH) and Supportive Housing for Young Mothers (SHYM); with the development of a third supportive housing program for late 2023. The goal of all YWCA’s housing programs is to provide safe, secure and supported housing to women and gender diverse people who have experienced barriers to stable housing.

Role of the Housing Team Lead

The Team Lead will work closely within all YWCA Housing Program to support residents and participants. The focus of the Team Lead will be to provide support to staff for resident/participant case management, to provide a holistic, continuum of care for housing participants. The Team Lead will work throughout all stages of participant involvement with the YWCA’s housing department. This position will

support staff in accessing housing suitability, creating care plans and offering solution-focused, strength-based, human-centered support for residents and participants.

Essential Duties of Position:

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of human behaviour including systems theory, family dynamics, group dynamics and theories of behaviour change to assist in:
    • Intake assessment.
    • Case management.
    • Interventions.
    • Programming.
  • Develop and manage relationships with community resources and agencies to assist in the continual care model and wrap around supports for participants.
  • Safety and risk assessments.
  • Help to develop and manage relationships with staff and participants.
  • Work with YWCA staff to coordinate support for residents and participants.
  • Support in new housing program operational development.
  • Assist the housing manager in the operations of all housing programs.

Qualifications and Requirements

The Team Lead will hold a degree in social work or related field such as, international development studies, sociology, child and youth studies, education, health promotion, or equivalent education and experience. They will have a minimum of three years’ experience within supportive housing programs and two years’ experience in case management and service delivery. The Team Lead will have an understanding of feminist theoretical perspectives and intersectionality. Also of issues such as racism/colonialism, violence against women, sexualized human trafficking, sexual health, and poverty. They will have knowledge of, and experience with community-based, trauma-informed, harm reduction practices as well as a strong commitment to ongoing learning and development in these areas and experience working in collaborative environments on complex issues involving multiple and diverse stakeholders.
