The Senior Manager position will involve applying technical knowledge of accounting policies and standards under IFRS, US GAAP and ASPE. In addition, you will support the delivery of ESG reporting and assurance services to public and private sector clients across a range of industries. Individuals who are independent thinkers and problem solvers, excellent research and writing skills, an ability to communicate technical concepts and solutions in plain language, and enjoy brainstorming accounting and operational solutions will thrive in this role. A pragmatic approach is key. This role also provides opportunities to develop skills related to maturity and business acumen, new business development, management and personal growth which would support career progression within Accounting Advisory and KPMG. What You Will Do The successful candidate will be responsible for providing depth of expertise that combines financial reporting knowledge and practical experience to proactively help clients address their accounting and financial reporting challenges. The candidate should be adaptable, quick learner, have technical accounting aptitude and organizational skills to juggle competing deadlines. Audit experience or technical accounting experience in industry is beneficial. The candidate should also be savvy with technology applications and Excel, to support clients with implementation and data modelling. You Will Lend Your Knowledge And Experience To Leading and contributing to accounting advisory projects under IFRS and/or US GAAP, including complex accounting matters. Remain current on applicable and evolving financial reporting standards, including ESG, and securities and regulatory requirements and developing accounting/business issues. Assist clients with a broad scope of financial reporting activities, including the preparation of financial statements, preparation of working papers and liaising with the clients’ auditors. Assist clients with evaluating the requirements of accounting, reporting and disclosure standards, preparing supporting analyses, including drafting reports and presentations, and analyzing differences between different accounting frameworks. Assist clients to operationalize financial reporting, risk management reporting and regulatory reporting requirements/needs. Assist clients in developing best practice ESG program development and reporting including benchmarking exercises, gap assessments, roadmap development and other reporting advisory services. Assist assurance teams in the delivery of sustainability-related engagements, including sustainability report assurance and greenhouse gas (GHG) assurance. Develop fit‑for‑purpose solutions through obtaining understanding of clients’ preferences and business constraints. Work with broader KPMG advisory teams including Management Consulting, Risk Consulting and Deal Advisory, in support of process/control redesign and advising on other business implications to clients when assessing the impact of accounting change. Build your professional network and grow the accounting advisory business. Plan for and develop internal and external thought leadership publications and events. Counsel, train, and mentor audit staff. What You Bring to the Role An entrepreneurial growth mindset that supports you in generating new opportunities for accounting advisory projects. An interest and intellectual curiosity in accounting policies and standards and applying these principles to complex transactions. Ambition to learn new things as well as analyze, research and solve problems on complex accounting issues, while displaying good judgment. Professional accounting firm experience is a must. 7+ years of accounting experience in a public practice accounting firm or in a company. Previous experience using IFRS and/or US GAAP with publicly listed clients. Experience with global sustainability reporting frameworks would be a benefit. Superior written and oral communication skills, with the ability to ‘uncomplicate the complicated’ by expressing ideas clearly, convincingly and concisely to both external and internal stakeholders. Must be able to take initiative and work independently, but also work effectively as a member of a team. Demonstrated ability to leverage staff through effective delegation and demonstrate strong leadership qualities. Strong mentoring and performance management skills. Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing demands, without sacrificing attention to detail. Also, the ability to deliver assignments and respond to queries on a timely basis. Experience with tactical or strategic system implementation, including data discovery, configuration and/or testing. Canadian CPA designation, or international equivalent. Proficiency in English is required for this position. The successful candidate may be required to support or collaborate with English‑speaking colleagues or stakeholders at KPMG Canada, located outside of Quebec, necessitating effective communication orally and in writing in English.
