Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Financial Analyst to oversee and control the financial aspects of their solar energy projects. Your ability to monitor project expenses, forecast financial needs, and report financial statuses will be critical to supporting their developments. The Analyst will work well independently and collaboratively with leadership and internal/external team members. This is a growth role within the company and offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious self-starter to grow their skills and career.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate the feasibility and financial viability of projects, including revenue projections, cash flow analysis, and return on investment calculations.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analyses to support decision-making on project development, financing options, and investment strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of project budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Analyze variances between actual and forecasted financial performance and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Participate in investment analysis, performing due diligence on potential projects, and assessing financial risks and opportunities.
  • Evaluate financing options, tax incentives, subsidies, and other financial mechanisms to optimize project economics.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, summaries, and presentations.
  • Create and maintain documentation supporting financial analysis and investment decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project developers, engineers, regulatory specialists, and senior management to align financial strategies with project goals.
  • Provide financial insights and support decision-making processes related to project development, acquisitions, and portfolio management.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field. Relevant certifications preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in financial analysis, preferably in energy, solar development, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, valuation techniques, and analysis using Excel, PowerPoint, and Smartsheet.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • General knowledge of renewable energy financing, tax credits, and incentives.
  • General knowledge of the Alberta electricity market and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively present findings, collaborate with teams, and convey complex financial concepts.
