OverviewSenior Geochemist/Mine Water Quality Specialist at Stantec. Location options include Victoria, Sidney, Burnaby (BC) or Markham/Waterloo (ON) with flexibility for other offices and relocation assistance.Join a team focused on water quality, geochemistry field programs, environmental assessments, and environmental permitting, with a mining focus.ResponsibilitiesSupport geochemical and water quality components of projects including environmental assessments, models, and monitoring programs.Lead multi-disciplinary teams on water-related mining projects (geochemists, water quality specialists, hydrogeologists, engineers).Lead complex projects with initiative and independence across a broad knowledge base.Provide guidance to clients, project managers, and technical staff on mining-related water issues.Lead water quality and quantity model projects.Interpret and analyze data, providing technical support for water resource and environmental projects.Perform research related to technical issues or projects.Collaborate with practice professionals on baseline and impact assessments, feasibility studies, groundwater and surface water assessments, contaminant investigations, and rehabilitation projects.Prepare technical reports and perform QA/QC of technical documents.Perform data analysis and visualization using technical software.Conduct and support fieldwork as needed.Support proposal development and project task financial and schedule management.Capabilities and CredentialsFluent understanding of Canadian and provincial water quality guidelines, legislation, licensing and permitting related to mining in BC, Ontario and Atlantic Canada.Ability and willingness to travel to lead field crews, perform environmental monitoring, or participate in off-site meetings with clients/regulatory agencies.Fundamental project-task management understanding.Proven ability to analyze field and technical data, conduct research, demonstrate technical knowledge, and solve problems.Strong organizational and communications skills (writing, speaking, graphical communication).Strong technical aptitude and time management skills for balancing priorities and deadlines.Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of water chemistry and contaminant transport modeling software (e.g., Goldsim, PHREEQC, Minteq, MIN3P) and Excel, database software is preferred.Experience preparing environmental assessments/impact statements and regulatory applications.Education and ExperienceMinimum of a B.Sc. in Geochemistry, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Earth Sciences/Engineering with a focus on geochemistry; advanced degree preferred.Minimum 10+ years of experience, including mining sector consulting experience; 15+ years preferred.Professional registration or eligibility (P.Geo. or P.Eng.)Valid Driver’s License.Typical office environment; some travel may be required.
