We are also proud to be named Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures for 2023 and 2024 Learn more at shn.ca Position Overview Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technician performs a variety of support functions using accepted safety procedures including phlebotomy, receiving, sorting and processing of specimens following established procedures and guidelines, preparing specimens referred out to other testing sites, performing temperature and maintenance checks on equipment, performing limited testing under direct MLT supervision, maintaining responsibility for inventory and supply control, observing and understanding hospital and departmental policies and procedures while maintaining and protecting patient confidentiality. Requirements MLPAO / OSMT Certificate Completion of Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Assistant certificate program from a recognized institution Minimum 1 year current hospital laboratory experience Ability to prioritize and organize daily work Well developed communication skills (oral & written) in English Proven ability to function effectively as a member of multidisciplinary team Protects patient confidentiality Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area. Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public.
