OverviewBe among the first 25 applicants. Zurich Canada is looking for an Automobile Underwriting Specialist to further develop our portfolio in the Ontario commercial insurance market. Reporting to the Regional Manager of Automobile, you will be responsible for a portfolio of existing medium to large complex commercial auto risks and will have the opportunity to develop your automobile portfolio further by leveraging your broker network and underwriting knowledge regionally and nationally.To analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, under limited direction, you will operate within The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework at delegated authority levels on highly complex assignments, ensuring a high level of service to customers. What you will doProactively seek renewal and new account opportunities with key broker partners.Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s appetite and balanced with sound business opportunities.Make agent/broker/customer on-site calls with planned and well-prepared purpose.Negotiate terms and conditions and close deals.Cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.Participate in Sales Team meetings related to assigned brokers and/or territory.Engage in the target account process, managing a qualified list of opportunities 90 to 120 days prior to effective date.Update required systems with details of broker/client visits and account status within the specified time frame.Serve as key contact for assigned target accounts and develop strong broker and client networks related to industries underwritten by the Business Unit.Calculate target price accurately using underwriting tools; measure exposure and analyze risk.Assist in training and developing staff; provide expertise on coverage issues with claims programs and guidelines.Contribute to development of underwriting manuals, programs and guidelines.Approve/place facultative purchases and promote the organization’s products and services to increase penetration within agency plant.Ensure the successful completion of projects by maintaining ongoing dialogue with business unit sponsors during implementation; diagnose and develop recommendations to solve unique business unit and customer problems.Lead complex technical or long-term projects (over 6 months) to implement new or changed systems, programs or products.Investigate, recommend and implement leading-edge technical solutions when they meet customer needs. Job QualificationsRequired:High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.ORHigh School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.ORORZurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.ANDKnowledge of Microsoft OfficeExperience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal businessExperience working in a team environmentPreferred:5+ years Underwriting Commercial Automobile Risks (IRCA, Garage, Fleet) with a focus on medium to large accountsExperience with medium to large sized bulk rated fleet risks; loss-rated accounts; actuarial-type risks; loss sensitive, high retention policiesExperience with heavy commercial US exposure and/or US plated; filings and regulatory challenges; updated fleet technology knowledgeBachelor’s DegreeStrong verbal and written communication skillsMicrosoft Office experience Our CultureWe are proud of our culture and our commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Belonging (DEIB).
