Job Description:

Our client is a growing metal fabrication company, spanning two locations (Canada and USA) primarily supporting contract manufacturing for OEM and in-house product lines alike. They are enriched with an excellent family-like environment which has fostered new opportunities and are looking to add enthusiastic and skilled professionals to our team As an Intermediate Manufacturing Engineer, you will have a vast range of responsibilities including:

  1. Evaluation and preparation of customer orders and requests.
  2. Improving the performance and efficiency of customer products/shop floor manufacturing processes.
  3. Design and support of manufacturing tools such as welding fixtures and quality check-gages.
  4. Design/control of original projects and product lines.

The ideal candidate has:

  • A creative approach for generating innovative ideas with sound engineering knowledge of CAD software.
  • An excellent grasp of engineering design principles.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of metal fabrication processes.
  • Effective communication and prioritization skills.

Responsibilities:
  1. New Product Control: Review and control of new customer orders for manufacturing. Detail-oriented review of drawings, specifications, and other related documents. Identifies operations and inspections necessary for successful manufacture. Determines labour estimates for in-house manufacturing operations. Develop and/or verify labor estimates via experiencing, analytical tools, and input from fabrication team. Development and setup of bill of materials for customer orders.
  2. Design of Manufacturing Tools: Designing, prove-out, and implementation of flexible and hard-gage manufacturing tools such as welding fixtures, quality check-gages, custom press-brake applications, etc.
  3. Design and NPI of Existing and New Products: Designing and drafting of new/revised customer products and original products for production. Control of production technical information such as drawings, CAD models, flat pattern development, etc. Follow through and setup of assigned new product introductions and prototyping.
  4. Production and Product Continuous Improvement: Troubleshoot production/product issues, (internal designs and external customers) developing engineering solutions to solve the root cause of a problem, as well as heading the implementation of the solution via individual or team effort.
  5. Special Projects: Actively engage, help, or lead special projects such as on-going designs, prototyping, implementation of new machines and/or shop-process capabilities, and continuous improvement opportunities. Project management such as developing project criteria, scope, goals, deliverables and follow through in a timely fashion.
Qualifications:

Education: Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or equivalent (required)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and evaluate engineering blueprints and technical drawings. Advanced knowledge, understanding, and use of GD&T is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of metal-manufacturing processes including laser cutting, shearing, punching, forming, machining, welding, finishing, and assembly. Specializations in any of the above processes and mechanics are an asset.
  • Metal fabrication shop floor practices, manufacturing fundamentals, and skills/knowledge of continuous improvement methods (5S, lean management, kaizen, six sigma, statistical process control, etc.) are an asset.
  • 3-5+ years experience in using CAD software to edit, model, and draft parts and assemblies. SolidWorks experience is an asset. Additional skills such as design of manufacturing tools, weld fixtures, quality gages, etc., sheet metal modules, parametric CAD design, multibody parts and weldments, assembly simulation, effective use of design equations and part configurations, and FEA analysis are an assist.
  • High proficiency with computers and familiarity with word processing, database, spreadsheet software, etc. MS Office VBA macros and JobBoss ERP experience are an asset.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, decision making, oral/written communication skills, and ability to work as part of a team.
