We have a rich history of consistently driving innovation, harnessing cutting-edge technology, and cultivating a dynamic environment that empowers our employees to shape the future.Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, the Hydrogeologist is responsible for groundwater monitoring programs and modelling studies to support permitting, compliance, and managing the site’s groundwater resources. The successful candidate will work as part of a cross-departmental team to implement the Water Management and Environmental Management Systems. The position requires collaboration with a variety of people from across the site and with external consultants and contractors.Key ResponsibilitiesAct as a courageous safety leader by adhering to and promoting a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on Teck’s values of health, safety, environment, and Indigenous and community engagement.Technical oversight of groundwater monitoring, assessment, management programs, and modelling studies.Contribute to geochemical studies and the oversight of programs dealing with metal leaching and acid rock drainage.Support the design, implementation, and operation of groundwater interception systems.Prepare and monitor schedules, cost estimates, and project forecastsConduct health and safety risk assessments, implement controls to mitigate hazards, conduct inspections, report incidents and participate in audits and investigations.Manage contractors and consultants to ensure work is conducted safely and in accordance with Environment, Health, Safety and Community Work Plans.Collaborate closely with site departments to facilitate environmental education and compliance assuranceTraining of junior employees and contractorsPerform other responsibilities as assigned or required, with potential for after-hours response to environmental incidentsQualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Earth or Environmental Sciences or Engineering, with a specialization in environmental geoscience (hydrogeology and geochemistry), and registered with, or eligible for immediate registration with, Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia.Minimum of five years of technical experience in the field of contaminant transport hydrogeology and/or geochemistry, and associated project management. Application to the mining industry is considered a strong asset.Experience with groundwater monitoring and assessment.Experience with geochemical monitoring and assessment, including material characterization for Metal Leaching and Acid Rock Drainage.Technical knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices.Proficient in data management.Strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a proven capacity in problem solving.Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders (including Indigenous Governments and Organizations, industry partners, and/or federal, provincial or local governments).Valid Class 5 driver’s license, with the ability to safely operate varying equipment.Proven capacity to collaborate effectively within a team environment, while also excelling at independent work in remote outdoor settings.Must be capable of routinely walking on uneven, sloped, rocky, wet, or icy ground for this position.BenefitsAnnual Performance BonusProfit Share PlanHealth Spending AccountPersonal Spending AccountExtended Health CareDental and Vision CareEmployer Paid Pension PlanLife Insurance and Disability CoveragePaid Sick Leave, Vacation and HolidaysVirtual Telemedicine and additional support for overall well-beingEmployee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP)Salary Range: CAD $105,000 - $130,000 per year.
