Job Description The CAD Specialist III is responsible for supporting the CAD Admin Team and end users of the CAD and integration tools from the initial design to project completion. This involves executing maintenance and implementation tasks as required, as well as independently handling medium-level tasks, monitoring processes, generating reports, and providing training for implemented processes and CAD tools used by end users. Complex tasks are supervised by Senior and Principal CAD Administrators. The CAD Specialist III also contributes to the development or improvement of CAD tools and processes to meet current and future business needs. This includes specifications, development, implementation, and maintenance of CAD tools, integration with other systems, development of processes related to the CAD environment, as well as the creation and maintenance of CAD templates, standards, part catalogues, libraries, and system specifications. Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on‑site at Capilano Business Park, North Vancouver. What You'll Do Report to the Senior or Principal CAD Administrators on assigned tasks, progress, and resource requirements. Develop and prepare engineering and architectural drawings. Support the CAD configuration control by preparing models and production drawings. Ensure data consistency with all internal systems (e.g. ARAS / IFS). Identify training needs, process improvements, and development opportunities to ensure current and future team efficiency, and report the impact across stakeholders. Support CAD software implementation and integration with all company systems. Support CAD database setup, including management and administration. Maintain, update, and tailor CAD library, CAD parts catalogues, system specifications, CAD templates, and CAD standards. Develop, generate, or produce automatic extraction of CAD reports to support business needs. Provide CAD training and technical support to end users. Contribute to the development of strategies, processes, procedures, and work instructions to improve efficiency and quality in the use of CAD tools with end users. Develop, implement, and monitor custom tools/macros to enhance system functionality and improve overall performance. Find opportunities and recommend workflow efficiencies. Support future business developments and requirements related to the CAD environment. Report on the performance of the CAD hardware and software systems in use by end users across the business. What You'll Bring Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required; Master’s in a related field preferred. Experience with a variety of CAD (computer‑aided design) software and excellent technical, analytical, and organizational skills. Experience in detailed design in shipbuilding or a related field is highly preferred. Minimum of 3 years 2D/3D CAD experience in a production environment is required. Demonstrated knowledge of 3D CAD tools and document control systems. Technical knowledge and marine engineering skills – cross‑discipline expertise with design, detail planning, production, piping, structure, nesting, and 3D models. Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports. Experience with CAD scripting languages. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision to develop solutions to sophisticated technical CAD problems. Good analytical skills to capture and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the business. Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Advanced PC and network proficiency, including troubleshooting network, licenses, and version control across all tools in use by end users. Exercise good judgment and make decisions consistent with the crucial job functions and corporate philosophy. Demonstrated knowledge with Navisworks, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
