As a member of the North American team, you'll join our skilled experts and support projects across the transportation and energy sectors, including bridge, marine, offshore wind, and tunnels across the US and Canada.
The Chief Financial Officer drives change to the processes, policies, procedures, and systems necessary to secure efficient, well-performing, and consistent support to the organization today and in the future. He/she is responsible for managing and improving the financial reporting and strategic planning processes while working closely with the stakeholders to develop and drive strategic plans, annual budgets, financial forecasts and analyses, and key performance indicators.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Oversee all aspects of FP&A (budgeting and forecasting), accounting, tax & transfer pricing, treasury and cash management, payroll, project controlling and managerial and financial reporting for the North American operations (Canada and US); administer pension plans (RRSP and ERISA 401k); oversee accounting for joint ventures.
- Ensure all financial operations are performed in a timely and accurate manner including payroll (Canada and US), A/P, A/R, cost accounting, collections, tax compliance and cash management.
- Ensure all aspects of financial management of the companies are conducted in compliance with local legal and contractual requirements (US GAAP, ASPE for Canada), and established policies and procedures of the COWI Group; collaborate with Finance shared service centre in Europe for transactional accounting.
- Lead cross border tax compliance for Canada and the US, treasury, mergers & acquisitions structuring.
- Drive annual budgeting and monthly forecast process with the overall responsibility for planning and forecasting all financial budgets in North America.
- Partner with members of the senior management team and various functions throughout the organization to ensure the Canadian and US operations continue to drive the business forward and achieve both strategic vision and financial goals.
- Act as a key player on the senior management team and to the CEO, by providing the team with financial advice and key analysis required for business decisions and supporting People and Organization during leadership changes.
- Assist with mergers & acquisitions evaluations, including due diligence, and provide effective leadership of Finance integration during the later stages of the process.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to facilitate mobility of staff into and out of North America, including tax compliance related to Global Mobility.
- Develop, support, and adhere to internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures, to ensure that the Company maintains a strong internal control environment.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the overall Finance team in North America and ensure that skills and attitudes match the business, as well as COWI Group's requirements for financial management, control, and reporting.
- Manage a team of 6 staff directly, while leading a group of 13 to ensure they are partnering with and supporting the senior vice presidents of business units and senior business support leaders.
- Be the key interface to other support functions.

On top of that, you will:
- Hold an undergraduate degree (finance, commerce, accounting) along with 10 plus years of proven success in holding a position of lead accounting or financial responsibility for a complex corporation within an international context, including 5 years of people management and leadership experience in a high-volume finance department. Project-based, consulting engineering experience and CPA designation are considered assets.
- Have a strong ability to lead, motivate, and mentor teams, including addressing performance concerns and resolving conflicts.
- Be able to manage multiple stakeholder relationships including building effective working relationships with senior management and global headquarters.
- Possess working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting and profitability analysis.
- Have strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model together with proven ability to work in a matrix, multi-site organization within a global context.
- Have well-developed and sophisticated communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage relations at various levels within an organization.

Base compensation: $230,000 to $260,000 for North Vancouver location. Actual compensation is subject to variations due to education, experience, skill set and/or location.
