Overview Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Asphalt Laboratory Technician to join our team in Pickering, Ontario. Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services. This posting is a new position for this location. Responsibilities As our asphalt laboratory technician, you will be responsible for Superpave and Marshall Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) mix designs, asphalt quality control and quality assurance testing in the laboratory. Your responsibilities will include: Performing high and advanced complexity of asphalt materials testing; Marshall and Superpave Mix Design testing (CCIL Type "A" Lab Certification); Marshall and Superpave Mix Compliance testing (CCIL Type "B" Lab Certification); Performing calibrations and routine repairs of laboratory instrumentation; and, Participating in the MTO correlation program. Qualifications To qualify for this role, you will have a relevant post‑secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field and a class G driver’s license. Finally, you will also have the following: Completion of a related post‑secondary program in Civil Engineering Technology is preferred; Asphalt Testing Certificate from CCIL is preferred; Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word‑processing); and, Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required. Base Salary Range $19.63 - $22.60 per hour. The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting. The offered wage may be adjusted upward for candidates whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting. Candidates with less experience and qualifications may be considered at a reduced starting wage.
