NURS 2701: Clinical Sessional Lecturer – Adult Health Challenges Nursing Practicum – Winter 2026 Faculty of Health Sciences Reporting to the Dean and Associate Dean, Nursing, the Clinical Sessional Lecturer provides direct supervision and instruction to undergraduate nursing students in the Faculty of Health Sciences as they engage in an in‑person practicum experience. Practicum Information: Practicum days are typically Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, and may include days and/or evening shifts depending on the placement. Shifts are typically weekly 12‑hour shifts depending on the practicum setting. Instructors work with a group of students in a practicum setting primarily focused on the care of medical/surgical patients. The majority of practicum placements are within a 1.5‑hour drive of North Campus. Instructors may be required to facilitate simulation‑based education (online and/or in‑person simulation) as a required component of the practicum portion of this course. Responsibilities / Accountabilities: The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically and methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. Facilitate and support student learning in a practicum environment as students develop Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Entry to Practice competencies. Support the application and development of knowledge, skills, judgment, and foster the development of critical thinking and clinical judgment, in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Practice Standards and related documents, and university and program policies and procedures. In keeping with a technology‑enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology‑enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate/graduate level. Required Skills: A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies. Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment. Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff and students. Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate/graduate students in a Health Science program. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Learning Management System, Canvas. Demonstrated ability to deliver classes remotely, using online modalities such as Kaltura Media and Google Meets. Proven experience managing large classes and diverse populations. Experience coordinating and supervising Teaching Assistants as applicable. Excellent organizational skills are needed to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments and exams and the ability to respond to student inquiries in a timely manner. Educational Requirements: An undergraduate degree in nursing (BScN) is required; a Master’s degree in nursing or a related field would be an asset. Required Experience: Successful candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of recent and relevant experience. Training or experience with simulation/virtual simulation would be an asset. Preference will be given to those candidates with demonstrated and documented teaching excellence experiences in undergraduate and/or graduate post‑secondary settings. Evidence of the candidate’s teaching philosophy, courses taught and developed, and teaching effectiveness in the form of a teaching dossier if required. Additional Requirements: Applicants for this position must be Registered Nurses (Regular or Extended class) and hold a current license entitling them to practice with no restrictions with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
