Job Details Homes by Avi Group of Companies is seeking an experienced, innovative and highly detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Assistant Controller. Description You will work directly under the leadership of the Controller to mentor and support the Finance team. The Assistant Controller is responsible for providing financial support to our property management and general contracting businesses and assisting with monthly and annual tax requirements. Who You Are You have a positive, professional attitude and have experience providing leadership and guidance to an accounting and finance department. You are an expert in providing timely, accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, cash flow management, budgeting and analysis. You are an organized, accomplished multi-tasker, with the ability to pivot from task to task while balancing ever-changing priorities and competing urgencies. You have strong interpersonal skills and are an effective, articulate communicator in both your written and verbal communications. What You Will Do Manage the financial reporting function for our general contracting and one of our property management divisions to ensure that all internal and external reporting is delivered complete, accurate and on time Manage and develop a team responsible for month-end and year-end activities and reporting Review staff journal entries and reconciliations, providing coaching and guidance as needed Prepare month end journal entries and review working papers including GST, bank reconciliations and monthly financial reporting packages Develop, document and maintain internal controls, accounting policies and procedures Support the preparation of annual divisional budget, monthly forecasts and variance analysis Assess complex transactions and prepare related journal entries Provide financial insights and analysis to operational departments to support strategic decision-making Work closely with operational departments to ensure financial reporting meets needs of users Assist the Controller in insurance reporting, annual corporate insurance renewals, property tax management for the corporate group Support the Finance Team in preparing T2 corporate income tax returns and T5013 partnership income statements for the corporate group Assist the Controller with monthly tax instalments and be the key contact for CRA correspondence Adhoc reporting as required Your Qualifications – The Must Have’s CPA Designation is required Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience Strong leadership skills with an ability to develop, mentor and complete performance evaluations for their team Highly resourceful; the ability to take things, figure them out and run with them with little or no direction Effective written and verbal communication skills Work independently to lead strategic initiatives and resolve issues with support of the Controller Experience filing tax returns and tax related transactions Additional Skills – The Nice To Have’s Experience with Business Central Experience with property management and general contractor work Homes by Avi offers an extensive benefits package including RRSP matching, flex days, wellness program and much more. #J-18808-Ljbffr
