The successful candidate will be involved in project coordination, design management, financial and schedule monitoring, stakeholder engagement and negotiations, quality management, and will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to create high-quality design solutions.Primary ResponsibilitiesIn the role of Intermediate Transportation Engineer, we'll count on you to:Act as a transportation engineer as needed, including preparing road alignments, cross-sections, active transportation design, grading models, drainage designs, storm sewer network layouts, quantity estimates, cost estimates, project documentation, and specificationsCoordinate designs with the rest of the multidisciplinary team including structural, traffic, pavement, environmental, stormwater management, electrical, etc.Assist the Project Manager in the day-to-day coordination of projectsSupport engagement externally and negotiation with key project stakeholders and clientsPrepare work plans and schedules in coordination with project managers and other disciplinesAssist in pursuit of opportunities and preparation of proposals (content generation, schedule, and fee estimates)Our ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation, collaboration, new experiences, opportunities and exceeding client expectations. This position will be mentored by senior engineers, project managers and business leadership to help the candidate better understand industry best practices, trends, standards, and preferences and successful business practices. Our goal is to help our clients achieve high performance in safety, quality, cost efficiency and profitability for their capital projects and on-going operations.Preferred QualificationsA Minimum of 7 years’ experience in highway and/or municipal roadway design engineeringFamiliarity with road design practices including application of design standards, TAC Geometric Design Guide, various provincial and municipal standards, and preparing contracts (documents and drawings)Experience engaging and negotiating with external project stakeholders and clientsStrong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamExperience with municipal and provincial clients in Ontario (MTO, Halton Region, City of Mississauga, City of Brampton, City of Toronto, and York Region)Experience with Freeway and Interchange DesignExperience with Municipal DesignRequired QualificationsBachelor's degreePrevious experience in all aspects of roadway engineering designRequires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.Hands-on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3dMS Office knowledgeExcellent communication and organizational skillsExperience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plansAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a mustWhat We BelieveHDR is our company.
