While each hospital is unique, they share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management. Additionally, externs will develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.Externship durations range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical phase of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
