Job Title QC Inspector III Department Quality Reports to Supervisor – Quality Job Category Hourly Scope of Position The QC Inspector supports aircraft assembly operations and the First Article Inspection (FAI) process for assembled components, installed kits and mechanical/hydraulic systems. The inspector approves or rejects the quality of work based on dimensional, functional and visual inspections, including in‑process, final inspection and FAI. Skills and Qualifications In‑depth knowledge of aircraft assembly inspection tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers and cable tensiometers. Professional technical expertise to solve complex issues by interpreting technical data, drawings, MHICA engineering specifications and customer specs. Reviews engineering investigation requests, initiates quality deficiency reports and ensures they are accurate, clear, concise, and comprehensive. Initiates the non‑conformance process and issues I‑Tags for nonconforming incoming products. Interfaces with production, engineering and other departments to issue non‑conformance reports, identify root causes, monitor corrective actions and verify rework activities. Inspects for fit and compliance with quality documents for installed pre‑fabricated parts, sub‑assemblies and mechanical systems. Plans inspection methods and sequences when written information is not provided. Uses measuring and testing equipment to inspect aircraft assemblies and mechanical systems for clearances, alignment, symmetry, dimensions, fit, function and workmanship. Rechecks quality after adjustments and rework operations according to engineering specifications. Visually inspects parts and assemblies for completeness, relationships to other components, quality of work and obvious defects. Monitors and verifies assembly work in accordance with inspection documents, drawings and engineering specifications. Compares measurements to drawings and specifications to determine compliance, maintains inspection logs and writes inspection reports. Conducts functional and continuity tests to ensure installations and mechanical systems meet required specifications. Performs in‑process inspections such as hole checks, fastener installations and sealant application. Documents First Article Inspection and tool inspection measurements. Responsible for area inspections and FOD surveillance as required. Monitors work area for adherence to quality procedures and instructions, proper use of tools and fixtures, calibration dates and shelf life of materials. Verifies production and quality documents, inspection records and the PIR book for completeness and accuracy on previous operations. Performs product and process audits on the assembly line as part of the FAI process using basic auditing principles, procedures and techniques. Experience Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the aerospace industry related to product inspection and familiar with aerospace parts, assemblies, manufacturing (machining) and assembly processes. Ability to provide technical support and excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedules. Hands‑on experience with the First Article Inspection process and FAI specific forms and records (AS 9102). Knowledge and working experience with the non‑conformance and corrective action process. Advanced blueprint reading skills for interpreting drawings, part lists, GD&T tolerances and symbols. Comfortable working in a noisy, fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Physical requirements: fit, energetic, agile, able to work in restricted spaces (tanks), at heights (third‑floor jigs), rotating shifts, bend, twist, walk uneven surfaces, climb stairs, lift up to 40 lb, and stand 7 hours of an 8‑hour shift. Education Technical college with a strong quality background. Vocational training in aircraft assembly inspection, including reading and interpreting drawings, manufacturing/quality inspection procedures and engineering specifications.
