HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation. Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences. Role OverviewFor this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in civil engineering.
The successful candidate must possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.
Key ResponsibilitiesBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresParticipate in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every dayUpdate data systems and prepare internal communicationCollaborate with a multidisciplinary team to build and use detailed designs for civil projects on siteAssist with coordinating civil projects on active mine sites and organize, schedule and control the cost of projects, providing status reports on progressPrepare quantity take-off and cost analysisPlanning, scheduling and managing construction contractors and monitoring progressCreate and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do businessQualificationsCurrently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Civil EngineeringComfortable working in a dynamic work environment with a willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrainStrong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levelsPrevious work experience in a technical or engineering environment is an assetExperience with form design, macros and data analysis is an assetProficient in the Microsoft Office Suite® of applications: Word, Excel, Power Point, and AccessExperience with AutoCAD and Civil3D would be an assetAble to work efficiently, independently and part of the teamProven ability to learn innovative technologies and platforms quickly, accurately and efficientlyAbility to communicate with precision in a technical environmentAble to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understandAll students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.
