Plant Manager

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Plant Manager is responsible for all facets of the operational side of the business; optimizing the extrusion, and fabrication and packaging processes, maintenance of our plant and equipment, ensuring compliance in the discharge of industrial by-product, and managing a team of Production Supervisors, Technicians, and Maintenance personnel. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities of the Plant Manager are detailed below, but not limited to the following: Ensure the readiness and performance of operating equipment and services to support ALMAG’s operations teams. Ownership of the Extrusion, Fabrication, and Packaging Processes from material staging, to fabrication, to packaging, and safe/organized storage of finished product, continuously improving workflows to optimize capacity. Ensure adherence to daily production schedules and proactively communicate any delays or issues. Develop and execute a preventative maintenance program for all key plant equipment. Oversee plant-wide quality functions to ensure alignment with the company’s quality policy. Accountability for resolving quality issues, ensuring timely resolution. Analyse production metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to improve throughput and reduce downtime. Ensure cost-effective operations by managing resources efficiently and reducing waste. Maintain a safe, compliant, and productive workplace by enforcing PPE use, ensuring optimal product flow, keeping certifications current, organizing workstations, and maintaining proper tool inventory. Ensure compliance with municipal bylaws while working towards the highest practical level of responsibility. Establish and maintain housekeeping standards throughout the facility. Conduct safety audits, support incident investigations, and implement corrective/preventive actions. Drive zero-injury culture by embedding safety into all plant activities. Lead and manage the team in alignment with ALMAG’s PROUD values. Set clear performance goals for team members, monitor progress, and hold individuals accountable against targets and results. Support, guide, and oversee talent development and workforce requirements. Train, coach, mentor, and engage team members to foster collaboration and drive success. Schedule regular team meetings to review progress, address challenges, and adjust plans as necessary. Establish measurable goals, KPIs, and drive accountability while conducting performance evaluations based on data and results. Create and maintain a visual management board to track KPIs, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions. Champion succession planning to build bench strength for critical roles. Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers and strive for strategic partnerships. Review contracts and service agreements to optimize costs and ensure reliability of supply. Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments (Engineering, Quality, Maintenance) to ensure seamless operations and business alignment. Ensure financial targets are achieved by monitoring costs and implementing efficiency initiatives. Foster a culture of problem-solving and innovation across the plant. Identify opportunities to enhance productivity, improve efficiency, safety, quality and drive continuous improvement. Benchmark plant performance against industry standards and competitors to maintain competitive advantage. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Administration, or Facility management, or equivalent experience Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in manufacturing Knowledge and experience in aluminium extrusion processes is an asset Proficient in reading blueprints and schematics, an asset Skilled in developing production systems, including process optimization, containment, process flow, control plans, equipment installation projects, etc. Strong root cause problem-solving skills using tools such as fishbone, pareto, 5 whys, and 8D. Experience in fast-paced environment is considered an asset. Experience requirements assessed based on the complexity of processes managed and technical expertise. Technical Skills/Competence Exceptional organizational skills with proven ability to lead large, multi-project initiatives. Experience in complex problem solving, process control planning, manufacturing tooling, machine set-up, standard work instructions, and continuous improvement including Lean, Six Sigma and 5S. Demonstrates humility, passion for progress, and curiosity. Strong leadership, and team-building skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate. Proven track record of successfully transforming operations. High energy and self-motivated, with the ability to inspire teams to achieve excellence. Strong proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Acts as a role model for the company’s Core Values and holds team members accountable.
