Deputy Superintendent of Security & Compliance Are you a strategic, values-driven leader ready to transform Ontario's correctional system? The Ministry of the Solicitor General is seeking a Deputy Superintendent of Security & Compliance for the Kenora Jail, a pivotal role where you will champion institutional security, safeguard human rights, and drive operational excellence. Please note: This is a frontline essential position, your physical presence at the Kenora Jail is mandatory. About the Job In partnership with the Security Manager, you'll oversee security operations, guide staff, and implement proactive intervention strategies. You'll lead modernization initiatives for segregation oversight, shape policy development, and collaborate with teams across the province to make critical decisions on inmate care. Responsibilities Ensure inmates' mental health and any Human Rights Code related needs are being met. Implement new policy changes related to the review and oversight of administrative segregation. Ensure all inmates information, tracking and reporting are collected and shared in compliance with ministry policies. Consult with healthcare practitioners and superintendents on alternative placements within the institution or within Ontario. Problem-solve challenges from an institutional perspective to reduce the number of inmates housed in administrative segregation. Repurpose space to ensure inmates can come out of their cell for meaningful social interaction. Manage, coordinate, and oversee functions within a correctional institution to ensure public safety and support the care, custody, and control of offenders. Oversee security operations, including staff sergeants, the Institutional Security Team, and justice stakeholder relationships, while assuming overall responsibility during rotational on-call periods. Lead financial planning and performance management functions, ensuring compliance with ministry policies, contracts, and operational standards. Coordinate with other Deputy Superintendents on operational, program, and administrative priorities to achieve institutional and ministry goals. Develop and implement policies and program evaluation criteria, applying risk- and evidence-based approaches to support decision-making. Manage large-scale projects and teams to implement modernization initiatives and advance ministry and OPS priorities. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with ministry and community partners to strengthen operational excellence and compliance. Experience managing sensitive and contentious issues. Analytical, Problem Solving and Strategic Planning Skills Identify contentious issues and develop strategic approaches for resolution. Apply systematic approach in developing complex work plans to achieve organizational goals. Ensure institutional programs and services follow ministry policies and standards. Use evidence-based approach for investigations. Manage challenging workloads and priorities while exercising good judgment and staying calm in high-tension situations. Technical Skills and Knowledge Knowledge of public administration, correctional administration, criminology and theories of human behaviour as they relate to offenders and programming. Knowledge and experience in managing security and programming requirements, emergency response and crisis management. Ability to obtain and develop knowledge of correctional institutions’ management, finance, and administration, including human behaviour, policies and legislation relevant to offender care, custody, control, safety, programming and accommodation needs.
