ABOUT THE ROLE Reporting to the Supervisor, Program Policy and Planning, this position is responsible for researching and providing policy support and advice on emerging legislation, regulations and Regional policies and practices in accordance with the Department and Branch initiatives. This role will conduct research for program and policy development and data management, support projects and process development, develop communication materials and keeps abreast of trends in legislation, relevant sector initiatives, policies and procedures, community development and the broader political environment. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING Monitors, researches, and analyzes on implications related to policies/guidelines and emerging legislation and regulations affecting the Department/Branch/Division. Conducts extensive literature reviews, environmental scans including gathering, synthesizing, analyzing, and reviewing qualitative and quantitative data to inform policy and program development. Prepares presentations, impact and options analysis and reports, briefing notes, background materials to support staff and senior management. Assists in coordinating/conducting research and educational activities (focus groups, workshops, consultants, etc.) Assists in the development and implementation of work plans, communications strategy, including scope of work and key deliverables of the programs/projects. Assesses the changing environmental and political atmosphere and provides support to the respective Manager on policy or program implications. Gathers and analyzes information on dept/branch related issues that may have implications for the Department; prepares presentations, impact and options analysis and reports. Gathers, maintains, and stores related literature and research material in accordance with the Region’s Records and Information policies. Coordinates input, strategies, communications, and information from local municipalities and other stakeholders, as necessary. Responds to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate. Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards. Coordinates focus groups and workshops and participates in cross functional teams and committees, work groups, task forces and special projects, as assigned. Manages information in accordance with legislation and corporate standards. Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Successful completion of a University Degree in Business, Policy, or Public Administration, Social Sciences, or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum two (2) years experience in policy, planning, and project management advisory in a public sector environment. Experience conducting extensive literature reviews, including the ability to summarize complex data into understandable, user-friendly, relevant explanations for reporting and knowledge transfer to management and staff.
