Your Opportunity The Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is a warm & vibrant workplace, serving children & their families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. We have an exciting opportunity to join our Allied Health team as a Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP), as part of the site‑wide SLP and interdisciplinary feeding teams, with a focus on patient & family‑centred care. This position will provide primary support to ACH inpatient units, and our zone‑wide regional NICU team. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for interprofessional collaboration with medical teams, assessment & intervention within the clinical assignment, work with families, community partners, discharge & way‑finding support. This specialized area includes infants & children (0‑18 yrs) admitted to inpatients with traumatic, acquired &/or congenital medical conditions. Practice areas include complex feeding & swallowing, clinical & instrumental assessment of swallowing (VFSS & FEES); complex communication needs & AAC supports. You will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team; will exhibit advanced clinical reasoning & problem‑solving skills including analytical thinking & conflict resolution; will be organized in managing a complex caseload; will demonstrate initiative & adaptability to meet varying clinical & operational needs; will demonstrate effective interpersonal, verbal/written communication skills. Supervision of graduate students, therapy assistants is required. You will receive guidance, mentoring, & leadership appropriate to your level of experience. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA). Additional Required Qualifications Minimum one to three (1‑3) years of relevant, related clinical experience working within pediatric rehabilitation and supporting complex acquired & congenital medical, neurological, oncological, pain, genetic, and somatic conditions. Minimum two (2) years of recent (last 1‑2 years) experience in pediatric rehabilitation. Minimum one (1) year knowledge, skills and experience in complex pediatric feeding & swallowing. One year knowledge, skills and experience in complex pediatric communication disorders. Knowledge and experience in neurological interventions, rehabilitative service, and transition support, community resources and programs. BCLS‑HCP certification. Preferred Qualifications Experience conducting and interpreting instrumental swallowing evaluations (i.e., VFSS and FEES). Knowledge and experience with Augmentative & Alternative Communication.
