POSITION TITLE: Community Wellness and Workplace Safety Advisor (also known as Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Advisor) POSITION TERM: Maternity Leave (12 months) LOCATION: Hybrid (Vancouver office) Community Social Services Health and Safety Association of BC (CSSHSA) values are interconnected and mutually reinforcing. In collaboration with CSS sector employers, employees, unions, and our partners, CSSHSA provides support and delivers information, education, tools, and resources to our CSS members. By building strong relationships within the CSS sector, we continue to enhance community wellness and workplace safety across BC. We foster a workplace culture that embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion at every level. Role Summary The Community Wellness and Workplace Safety Advisor (the Advisor) works with the CSSHSA Advisory Panel, and the CSSHSA Community of Practice to develop effective OHS programs, training and resources that lead to reduction of workplace injuries, claims and achieve compliance with the WorkSafeBC’s Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR) and other relevant legislation. The Advisor is a skilled facilitator and delivers OHS training sessions, conducts outreach with member CSS organizations to support them with implementation of wellness and workplace safety programs and culture. The Advisor is an expert in wellness and workplace safety management systems, understands the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program and can effectively liaise with all levels, from workers to directors. The Advisor will support the development of CSSHSA’s mental wellness program in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan. The Advisor will work directly with the CSS sector’s employers and workers and play a key role in helping promote mental wellness in workplaces through facilitating practical workplace training, and guiding our members to relevant mental wellness services and resources. The Role will involve: Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with regional employers, employees, unions, and other partners Contributing to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, modelsanti-racist behaviours, and practices accountability holistically and wholeheartedly Providing expert advice, assistance and representation to the sector with respect to interpretation, application and administration of the Workers Compensation Act and the OHSR Delivering virtual and in-person training on wellness and safety topics, and contributing to the development of online learning resources Facilitating Community of Practice sessions in collaboration with other CSSHSA Advisors and moderating online discussions (chats) as needed Leading the development of CSSHSA’s wellness and workplace safety resources and tools in collaboration with the Advisory Panel and other partners, to create a constant flow of wellness and workplace safety information that is relevant to the CSS sector Demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and discretion in all interactions with colleagues and the public; respecting the highest level of confidentiality and privacy Maintaining accurate records and evaluation data as required Supporting PHS Consultant in aligning mental wellness information with a Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) and with any relevant WorkSafeBC legislation Qualifications A level of education, training and/or experience equal to a Technical Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (i.e., from BCIT or other) or a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g. OHS) plus one to three (1 to 3) years of related progressive wellness and workplace safety experience, ideally in CSS sector Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to work with diverse populations, includingethno-cultural and Indigenous communities as well as underserved communities Supportive of community relationship building and decolonization Advanced knowledge of legislation, regulations, and standards related to workplace safety and disability management Demonstrated experience with workplace safety management systems, understanding of COR, and designing and delivering workplace safety training Working knowledge of the CSS sector Empathetic relationship builder, with demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, able to break the ice and build trust with others Open-minded and flexible in thoughts and tactics; patient and active listener with the ability to uphold personal and professional boundaries Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated ability to speak comfortably in front of groups, in-person and via videoconferencing software; previous public speaking or training facilitation experience preferred Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision and collaborate within a team setting, ability to handle multiple projects, influence and lead change Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and skilled in virtual meetings software platforms as a presenter/host (e.g. Teams, Zoom) Designation as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is an asset BC Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle, willingness to travel for delivering training Work Environment A great team atmosphere with a people-first culture focused on wellness and collaboration Hybrid office/home based work environment Travel throughout BC as required What We Offer Opportunity to be part of a growing organization and team Ability to contribute to meaningful work, develop best practices and system wide solutions for wellness and workplace safety for CSS workers across the province Health and Dental benefits Paid vacation Flexible work arrangements Professional development and membership opportunities Salary range: $70,000 - $85,000 The starting salary for this position will be determined with consideration for the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience as well as internal equity.
