We seek a Sr. Director – Medical Affairs Immunology to provide medical and scientific leadership for the Therapeutic Area (TA) Strategy, partnering with cross-functional teams to support peri-launch, launch, and lifecycle activities and to lead TA strategic initiatives. The role leads a team including Scientific Advisors/Directors and an MSL Manager who leads a group of Immunology MSLs.OverviewThe Sr. Director – Medical Affairs Immunology defines and executes the integration and implementation of TA capabilities across brands within the assigned business unit. This role partners with leadership to enable strategic and efficient delivery of business plans, manages cross-functional relationships, and invests in TA/brand team health. It also drives the evolution of medical capabilities and fosters leadership development, scientific depth, and agility within and across TAs and brands. A culture of inclusion and innovation is expected to support shared learning and best practices across the organization.ResponsibilitiesDefine and execute the strategic integration and implementation of TA capabilities across brands within the assigned business unit.Partner with leadership to enable strategic and efficient delivery of business plans through resource coordination, cross-functional partnerships, and TA/brand team health investment.Drive the evolution of medical capabilities and provide growth opportunities for the team in leadership, medical affairs expertise, and scientific depth across TAs/brands.Create a culture of inclusion and innovation, promoting shared learning and best practices across the business unit and internal partners.Plan, implement, and deliver strategies and tactics in the TA; lead a team including Medical Affairs leaders and MSLs.Medical Affairs lead activitiesActively involved in formulating overall product strategy with BU colleagues; support marketed products from a medical/scientific viewpoint; serve as medical lead to harmonize medical activities across the responsible TA; own local medical plans, lifecycle plans, and portfolio discussions.Review external donation, sponsorship, and grant requests in collaboration with the medical affairs leadership team.Performance ManagementParticipate in performance management for reporting staff; contribute to salary administration, talent assessment, and succession planning. Ensure development plans, coaching, and feedback support growth; model leadership behaviors and contribute to the development of others.Team CultureFoster an inclusive leadership mindset; empower authentic leadership; encourage innovation and responsible risk-taking; implement team-based recognition; establish shared learning opportunities; attract and evaluate talent.Remove barriers to delivering exceptional business partner and customer experiences.Execution and DeliveryActively measure and balance team capacity to ensure TA teams are staffed to deliver launch and lifecycle medical objectives. Partner with MA leadership to ensure integrated capabilities that leverage talents to meet medical objectives and strategic initiatives.Collaborate with the broader Medical Affairs operations organization (medical information, medical education, MSLs, MSL management, regulatory) to support holistic MA objectives.Training and ComplianceEnsure staff adherence to policies and procedures; ensure training and accountability; provide guidance on compliance and quality issues with appropriate resources.Support staff in navigating compliance issues with applicable resources.Minimum Education and Qualification RequirementsPhD or MD degree (or equivalent) required8+ years of experience in medical affairs within the pharmaceutical industryProven supervisory experience with strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills; ability to coach and develop diverse teamsStrong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skillsAbility to influence at all levels to drive initiatives and create valueStrong business acumen and ability to balance portfolio perspectives with corporate objectivesAbility to partner cross-functionally and network across the organizationStrong problem-solving and judgment; ability to diagnose root causes and implement corrective actionsExperience leading organizational change and driving bold initiativesOther Information/PreferencesExperience in Immunology TA (dermatology, gastroenterology, rheumatology)Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as neededLilly is an equal opportunity employer.
