OverviewEngineer-in-Training, Tailings at Gibraltar Mine (part of Taseko Mines Limited) – Williams Lake, BC. Full-Time position reporting to the Senior Engineer, Tailings. Salary range: $92,100 to $115,200.About the company: Taseko Mines Limited is a dynamic and growing mine operator headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, focused on North America and copper production. The Gibraltar copper mine is a long-life, low-cost operation known for environmental and safety excellence.Role OverviewWe are looking for a Tailings Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support safety and environmental compliance in tailings management. You will provide technical support to Mill Operations, focusing on safe and effective tailings deposition while adhering to safety and environmental procedures. You will help develop short-term deposition plans and infrastructure requirements aligned with long-term strategies. You will conduct monthly reconciliations of deposition plans, collect and maintain tailings data, and produce regular reports. You will perform field quality control tests for geotechnical materials, track costs, assist with water management calculations, and support surveying and GPS fieldwork using RTK equipment and drone photogrammetry. You may provide project management coverage as needed.Core ResponsibilitiesBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.Provide technical support and operational targets to Mill Operations to ensure safe and effective deposition meeting design and storage requirements.Develop short-term deposition plans and infrastructure requirements aligned with long-term deposition strategies.Conduct monthly reconciliation of deposition plans and ongoing mass balance analyses.Collect and maintain tailings data and produce regular reports.Perform field quality control tests for geotechnical materials as part of dam construction.Track costs associated with tailings activities and manage critical parts inventory.Assist with water management and water balance calculations related to tailings and site-wide water systems.Surveying and GPS field work using RTK equipment and drone photogrammetry.Perform infrastructure inspections and generate maintenance reports and orders.Provide project management coverage as needed.Education & Experience3 to 4 years of operational, construction, or design work experience in the mining industry specific to tailings storage facilities.Engineering degree in a Civil, Geotechnical, or Mining-related field.Registered, or able to register, as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia or registered as an EIT with progression plan to obtain Professional Engineer status within 1 year.Skills & CompetenciesAble to work alone in outdoor settings and in adverse weather conditions.Experience with GPS/survey applications is an asset.Problem solving, effective communication, and time management.Ability to work independently and in a team.Good knowledge of MS Office; ability to perform basic programming in Excel.Familiar with water balance software (HEC-HMS) or GIS software is an asset.Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.Compensation & BenefitsOur compensation and benefits package includes competitive salaries, vacation, health, dental, disability insurance, and RRSP matching programs.
