Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.**Job Summary** The Research Nurse will participate in research activities conducted by the Adult Metabolic Diseases Clinic at Vancouver General Hospital and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI). The incumbent will conduct a wide range of general Level III nursing activities that relate to clinical research. Activities will include, but are not limited to: participant recruitment and informed consent, coordination and communication related to participant study participation, participant data extraction and collection, and some clinical procedures within current nursing scope of practice. **Organizational Status** The Research Nurse accepts direction from and is ultimately accountable to Dr. Anna Lehman. This position requires a working relationship with other research staff of the Adult Metabolic Diseases Research Program and the VCHRI Clinical Research Unit. This position also requires close interaction with study participants. **Work Performed*** Participate in the implementation of strategies that have been developed in order to conduct clinical trials and other study methodologies. Able to read, understand and comply with protocol requirements.* Identify and recruit participants: Review patient charts, determine eligibility for participation based on set guidelines in the study protocol.* Identify participants for enrolment, explain purpose of study to participants and their families and obtain informed consent.* Liaise with other hospital departments to disseminate study information and ensure understanding and compliance of the study protocol.* Collect data.* Carry out nursing functions as outlined in the study protocol* Coordinate with hospital staff, including physicians, nursing staff, research personnel, and other hospital departments such as laboratory, pharmacy, etc. to ensure study compliance as outlined in the protocol* Review participants’ chart for data collection and oversee data entry of participant information.* Completion of detailed source documentation/case report forms.* Provide monthly progress reports on the study and conduct quality assurance.* Perform other related duties as required.**Consequence of Error/Judgement** Duties are performed according to operating procedures, CT protocols, GCP guidelines, Health Canada Division 5 regulations, FDA CFR 51 regulations. Decisions are made for routine nursing duties. All non-routine decisions concerning eligibility are made in consultation with the investigator. Errors made could influence the ability of research staff to meet critical deadlines, as well as compromise the results and ethical adherence of research projects and publications, and therefore impact the credibility of the Investigator **Supervision Received** Minimal supervision/direction provided by the Principal Investigator. The incumbent will be expected to develop a work plan and timelines and exercise a considerable amount of judgement and initiative in duties and responsibilities **Supervision Given** May provide assistance to support staff and research assistants to ensure that project goals are met in a timely and efficient manner. **Minimum Qualifications** Registered Nurse with BCCNP plus a minimum of one year of nursing experience. - Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion**Preferred Qualifications*** Experience with research, clinical trials, phlebotomy, ECG recording, and obtaining participant consent is preferred.* Ability to work both independently and to deal with the public and to work in a team environment.* Effective communication, interviewing and counseling skills are required.* Excellent organizational abilities, including the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with health care professionals and with others, orally and in writing.* Ability to exercise initiative, tact and discretion.* Ability to handle patient data in a strictly confidential manner.* A high degree of computer literacy including Microsoft Word and Excel.
