Veterinary Extern – General Practice Join to apply for the Veterinary Extern – General Practice role at NVA Canada. Unpaid. An externship is an educational experience that gives students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to exceptional service for animals and their owners. Bowen Veterinary Services is a small boutique clinic on a community‑mindful island in BC. Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to develop the following skills: Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics Provide dental services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage patients medically throughout their care Practice communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients The externship typically lasts between two and eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. We encourage students in their 4th year or clinical year to participate. Eligibility: Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
